everyone, welcome to our newsletter.
Congratulations
to all the swimmers who participated in our “Ted Curtis Brace Relay” night last
club night.
What a fantastic night – all the kids had heaps of fun. I am particularly pleased with the response
from all the senior swimmers in the way they interacted with the younger
members of our swim club. I would also
like to thank Mr Denham for his participation in the relay due to us being
short on numbers by one – this meant that all the swimmers were able to
participate.
YP ANNUAL MEET
In the last newsletter, I forgot
to thank some very important people from the Annual Meet that cannot go
unrecognised – I would sincerely like to thank our Barbeque team Sandy &
Craig Rogers, Pam Jones, Sandy Melin, David Rogers, Deb Hooper-Lees, Cindy
Walton and Sheila Murray for a wonderful job that they did on the day and every
fortnight on club nights – without them, we would go very hungry!!!
I would also like to thank Becki
Jones for her assistance with being a runner with Leah Koger – many hands make
light work!
TONIGHT’S PROGRAM
Tonight we will hold our first
championship night of the season. Rick
has detailed in his report what the events are for tonight so please ensure you
nominate by 6.45pm otherwise you will miss out !!!
CLUB TOGS
I was hoping to have the club togs
available for purchase for club night tonight, however, the manufacturer had a
delay in the fabric
shipment and I have been told that
we should have them by the start of Mets next week. I f anyone wants theirs by then, please come
and see me so I can arrange to have them for you, otherwise, they will be on
sale next club night.

Don’t
forget to keep selling those chocolates.
I made the effort of mixing up the boxes last club night so they would
be easier to sell and we don’t have many boxes left, so please, if you can help
out by selling one more box, come and see me tonight. Please hand your money and unsold chocolates
to me so I can mark you off the list.
The more we sell, the more the club benefits from the proceeds!
Those
members that did not receive their free club shirt last week can come and see
me tonight to get one. Remember, you
must be a financial member before you can receive one.

Welcome to night four where we contest our distance championships. All swimmers are encouraged to compete tonight. We begin the night with the Yeronga TAFE Open 400m Freestyle events followed by our age group distance events.
7yrs & U 50 metres
8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 & 17yrs & O 200metres
For our younger swimmers who are not up to these distances we will swim 25metre freestyle after the open
400m with another 25m choice after the 11yrs 200metres freestyle.
Our last club night was a huge success with 35 teams taking part in the inaugural “Ted Curtis Brace Relay event”. I have received so much positive feedback about the event that it really encouraged a good mix of our younger and senior swimmers. The winners were;
1st "The Italian Stallions" - (Marcello Tonelli & Patrick Neill)
2nd "Monsters" - (Sam James & Lucy Smith)
3rd "The French Connection" (Joseph
Rebouillat & Robert Bell)
Nominations close for Jamboree Heights Meet tonight.
As was mentioned in the last newsletter this is one of the few target meets we have for the season. Rob and his club supported our meet with 56 swimmers. Lets do our best to support this meet!
We will be called upon to support this meet with timekeepers. I am requesting that some of our senior swimmers parents could help out with timekeeping duties at Mets.
Nominations will be finalised at the conclusion of the Mets. Swimmers who qualify can see me to tick off their events they would like to contest. Again we will be required to supply a number of timekeepers at this meet.
One of the club’s targeted meets for the season happened over the weekend. 26 swimmers in total raced over the two-day format, which saw many PB’s, and medals won over the weekend.
On Saturday it was for the 13yrs & over swimmers. Matthew Morgan and Peter Edwards our only 13yrs swimmers both collected medals. Matt won gold in the 100m Breaststroke/butterfly and bronze in the 50m Freestyle, and Peter Bronze in the 100m Breaststroke.
Iron man of the day, Jackson Van Der Zant swam a total of 11 races. He picked up 3 silver medals and a bronze and made it to the final 2 of the Skins elimination event collecting $25 for his efforts. Also contesting the 14yrs events was Laura Murray who won 2 silver and 2 bronze medals from 5 events she contested.
Jess Morgan won silver in the 100m Breaststroke/Butterfly, and bronze in 200m IM and Leah Koger won Bronze in the 100m Backstroke, both successful in the 15yrs events.
Our Open team put in a very good effort on the day collecting the following medals;
Wayne Amour Silver 400m Free, Clement Arnould Gold 100m Breaststroke, Brad Board Bronze 100m Freestyle, Emily Edwards Bronze 50m Freestyle and 100/200m Fly, Adam Hosking Bronze 50m Freestyle, Rebecca Jones Silver 100m Breaststroke, 200m IM, Leif Lyons Gold 50m Freestyle/ 100m Backstroke & Silver 100m Freestyle, Steve Mewing Silver 200m Freestyle and Bronze 100m Fly, Ryan Pini Gold 200m Freestyle & 100m Freestyle, Jonathon Portes Silver 50m Freestyle, Joseph Rebouillat Silver 100m Backstroke & 200m IM, Marcello Tonelli Gold 200m IM. Matteo Inches and Maxim Decacroin both swam well just missing on a medal.
Day 2
With only a small team of 6 competing, what we lacked in numbers these 6 swimmers certainly made up for in enthusiasm.
Emma Frey and Ashleigh Hopewell were our 7-year-old competitors. Emma finished a close 4th in the 50m Breaststroke while Ashleigh won 2 bronze medals in the Freestyle and Breaststroke sprints.
Jayden Hopewell, Oscar Breakwell and Rebecca Frey dominated the 11-year-old events. Both Jayden and Rebecca won 4 gold medals.
On top of that Jayden won another 3 silver medals and Rebecca one more silver. Jayden also finished 3rd in the Junior skins event and broke the pool record in these events, the 100m Freestyle 67.33, 200m Freestyle 2.25.34 and 50m Backstroke 36.29. Oscar competing at his first interclub meet for Yeronga won silver and 5 bronze medals. His time of 1.12.33 has qualified him to compete at the Queensland Championships in December. A top effort by our 11years champions!
Claire Murray was our sole representative in the 12years age group. Claire won the 200m IM and was second in the 50m Breaststroke.
Well done to our super team of 12yrs and under!
Congratulations to the team of 21 swimmers who completed 2 weekends ago at Chandler at the QSA Meet.
Ryan Pini proved his preparations were on target for the Commonwealth Games with 2 gold medal performances in the 100 and 50m Butterfly sprints. Jonathan Portes swam a solid 50m fly to claim the silver medal.
Caitlin Zillman was our sole medallist in the age group division. Caitlin won a bronze in the 12yrs & U 200m Fly in a 2.38+. Caitlin also swam PB’s in the 100, 200, 400m freestyle, 100 Fly, 100 & 200 Backstroke events.
Jayden Hopewell competing in the 12yrs & U events as an 11year old swam PB’s in all his events. They were the 100/200 Free, 100/200 Back, 100 Breaststroke and 200m IM. Jackson Vanderzant 14yrs and Ryan Liddell 16yrs both qualified for States in PB’s in their events. Jackson 100m Back 1.15.00, 100m Fly 1.11.11 and Ryan 100m Free 59+ and 100m Fly 1.08+. Rebecca Frey also swam personal bests testing the waters in the 200 Breaststroke and 200m fly events.
Wayne Amour lopped 7 seconds off his PB in the 400m Freestyle in a time of 4.22+
Other swimmers to contest the meet were Claire Murray, Adam Hosking, Stephen Mewing, Callum Lees, Sam James, Clement Arnould, Bec Jones, Erik Judd, Marcello Tonelli, Emily Edwards, Maxim Decacroin and Liam Ryan.
