Just like most people, I have looked
around and thought there is so much wrong with this world, with anger,
hardships of people not able to make ends meet, world hunger, family
break ups and the resentment that goes along with that, and have said what
could I do to help, the world is so large, and the problems are far too many
for one person.
One person cannot help so many
problems, and nobody expects one person to do that, but if we all do just a
little bit to help someone in need, then we are doing more then enough.
I am a firm believer of treat
others how you would like to be treated, but go the distance to help
others see this. If you purchase something and the person at the checkout
looks angry, don’t get angry in return, tell that person to have a nice day,
do it with a smile, and even tell that person they are doing a great job.
This will help that person to feel appreciated and help that person to smile
and to pass that smile on to the next person.
For many years, I have wanted to
do something, and after watching the movie Pay it Forward that was
inspired from the book written by
Catherine Ryan Hyde,
I knew that I wanted to be a part
of the Pay it Forward movement
For those of you who don't know
Pay it Forward, it's about a 12 year old boy that receives an assignment to
come up with an idea that might change the world. Trevor's idea is
doing favors for 3 people but they aren't allowed to pay it back they must
pay it forward to 3 people each. Eventually snowballing to a point
everybody gets touched. Trevor thought the project was a flop unaware that
not only had the idea PIF went around his town, but also across the country.
Why is it hard to believe that an act of kindness can
snowball and travel far? Well we being human beings often take take
but very rarely we give back, but lets say everybody does endless acts of
kindness, isn't it possible we humans can change? I believe we can
make a difference to the world, remember a little act of kindness goes a
long long way.
Sometimes we have to take a leap of
Faith and try to spread the message of PIF (pay it forward), even when we
think it's too hard or beyond our control.
It's not always easy to think
anything you do would matter, but to the people you do the act of
kindness, favour, for really do appreciate the things you do.
Sometimes it might be hard due to
life commitments, such as work, family, or lifestyle.
I know from experience, although I
have always wanted to help other people, I was just never able to find the
courage to break away from my fears, but then I met my partner. My
partner Dennis is my rock, he helped me to find the inner me, the real me.
Dennis is so understanding of what I want to do, he never discourages me.
Dennis is so understanding, helpful and the sweetest man anyone could ever
want, and without him I know I may never had, had the courage to do this.
In the book Pay it forward, Trevor
gets discouraged because he thinks his idea has not worked, Mr. St Clair
say's you can't orchestrate love, meaning you force people to feel as you
do, some people will not appreciate or realize what has been done and
will no pass it forward. We should never despair about trying to
change the world, by opening up our hearts, and doing acts of kindness to
others, eventually the message will get through even to the hardest heart.
