From Mal Alexander:
I have been following somes discussion on packet about this issue and understand the WIA may not have been consulted
about the LIPD. I would be reccommending that as well as your suggested letter, we should write to WIA.

I will suggest to the State Management of WICEN to also take action.

From Tony Farrow:

From Robert Demkiw, VK2TG:
You might like to have a look at the membership of the ACA Board on the ACA Web Page. I noted that the commercial and economic interests
are well covered.

I find it rather concerning that an organisation representing some 17,000 people in this country are not represented on the Board. Perhaps this matter needs to be addressed.

From Barry White, VK2AAB:
I read Bryans account with great interest. So far as I know we have not
had a problem in VK2 (yet).  I have attached a packet message that I put
out yesterday. It explains what happened in the past regarding this
matter.

Here in Northern Sydney there are a number of UHF voice repeaters.
We have one output from the packet switch VK2RNS on 434.100 Mhz at
4800bd and it hardly ever stops and it is in the middle of a residential
area.

I really think we would be flogging a dead horse in trying to get a
reversal of this decision for the reasons that given in the attachment.
Our best bet is to get an iron clad guarentee that any interfering
devices will be closed down FORTHWITH !

If Bryan is not on packet perhaps he could arrange for someone to put
his bulletin out on packet so that the general amateur packet population
can respond.  If he does not have someone able to do so for him I would
be pleased to send it for him.  At present the discussion on packet on
this matter is uninformed as no examples of interference are known.

There seems to be a lack of long term memory amoungst us all.
Don't you remember about 18 months  ago that the SMA called for public comment
on the "Low Interference Potential Device Class Licence" ?

Well they did and the WIA made submissions to that enquiry and opposed the
allocation, pointing out that an  amateur station would cause interference  to
those  devices  over  many  kilometers.  Remember we are talking about a whole
range of equipment of which hand helds will be a small segment.

Also  we  talking  about  some of  these  devices  having  VERY broad  band
receivers. Applications such as remote car  lock keys. So you won't need to be
operating in the same part of the band to interfer with them.

Why did SMA/ACA  allocate that band  ? Surprise surprise  !! It is  used in
Europe for that sort of application. I believe they were going to allocate it
no matter what anybody said.It was just an excercise in political correctness.
These devices are not licenced in the UK on that
frequency but they are there as they are illegal immigrants from Europe !

So it was a case of accepting it because they were coming ready or not !

Bit like the Chinese arriving in Cairns the other day.
Our real problem will be with the ones that are in continous transmit.
If  one of  these devices  lands on  the input  of our  lowest  channel  voice
repeaters we will have the devil of a time getting them off even though they
are supposed to  not cause interference  to any radio  service. What do you do
tell the big multinational company to close their in house computer link !

Or your next door neighbours brand  new Hi Fi amplifier to speaker  link has
to be closed down ?

Oh well we can always fight the pages on two metres.
