70cm Model Plane Remote
Controls
In the postings on DSE,
SOCOG, LIPDs and etc and the future of 70 cm of late, there has been no
mention of one other activity - radio controlled model planes.
For some months now Oatley
Electronics has been advertising digital TxRx units for $37 that work on
433.9 MHz. I guess these would be in the LIPD grabbag. One wonders what
would happen if a couple of Mitsubishi bricks were hung on the end. One
may not have to - See Electronics Australia for March 1999, p67/68.
The topic under discussion is radio controlled planes and as the scan file
was a bit big for here, I quote -
"Oatley Electronics is planning
a suitable 433 MHz high power radio control system, which we hope to publish
later this year."
There is then brief mention
of 27 MHz, 40 MHz and 433 MHz in RC context. The article continues and
makes reference to 304 MHz and the fact that EA has previously published
RC material on this latter frequency. Then, and I quote -
"Unfortunately this frequency
is also allocated for defence purposes, so the operating range of these
projects is therefore limited to comply with the regulations."
<snip>
"However, as mentioned,
Oatley Electronics is planning a 433 MHz system, which may better suit
your needs."
How many radio controlled
model-planes are there out there? And additionally, by necessity at any
given meet, the aeromodellers have to have several frequencies in hand
to avoid control conflicts in multiplane activities.
