Dear Sir / Madam,
Re: Operation of Low-Interference Potential Devices, 433.05 to 434.79 MHz
I am writing by way of complaint in regards to the licensing schedule "Radio Communications Class License (Low Interference Potential Devices)"; in particular item 17, column 1 of section 132 and 135, amendment dated 13th June 1997.
As a holder of an amateur radio license and a user of the frequency range 433.05 to 434.79 MHz, I am outraged that the operation of these devices has been authorised over practically the ENTIRE INPUT RANGE of our Australian FM repeater network.
The interference potential of these devices to the Amateur Service is EXTREMELY HIGH, as evidenced by several incidents in Melbourne over the past few weeks, where repeaters have been locked up and the source traced to an LIPD. Amateur repeaters are installed in optimum locations with sensitive receivers. They are easily subject to interference from LIPD’s, even those LIPD’s operating legally within the power levels recommended in item 17 of the above schedule.
Of particular concern is a new handheld transceiver being sold by Dick Smith Electronics, as advertised in recent catalogues.
As I am sure you are aware, the Amateur repeater network, apart from being used to further the experimental nature of our hobby, is regularly used by amateur radio operators to assist the community in times of need.
As a licensed user of the frequencies stated, I request that the allocation addressed in item 17 be immediately removed from the schedule.
I anticipate your immediate reply, attention to and resolution of this
matter.
Yours faithfully,
