Hot New Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain Iron Man Series for Summer An exciting new five round Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain Iron Man and Ironwoman competition with more than $200,000 in prize money will be the highlight of the Australian surf sports calendar this summer, with a brand new event announced by Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA) and Kellogg Australia. The country’s best Ironmen and Ironwomen will compete in five rounds over three weekends from 6 January with the final to be held at Coogee Beach in NSW on 10 March 2007. And in a new twist, the Ironmen and Ironwomen will also be competing in six teams of six, each representing different geographic regions of Australia, with prize money awarded based on individual and team point-scores. The teams will be called Northern Queensland ‘Lightnings’ (representing all QLD north of Brisbane River), Southern Queensland ‘Sunfish’ (all QLD south of Brisbane River), Northern NSW ‘Hammers’ (representing all NSW north of the Harbour Bridge), Southern NSW ‘Bluefins’ (representing all NSW south of the Bridge), Southern ‘Ice’ (representing Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania) and ‘Western Waves’ (WA and NT). The series will be broadcast as four one-hour programs, a two-hour final and a one-hour season ‘wrap’ in key timeslots across the Nine Network. The trial event, to be held at Terrigal Beach on 16 and 17 December, will be open to all SLSA members. SLSA selectors will select a further 3 male and 3 females following the event trial Round 1, Newcastle Beach (NSW), 6 January 2007 'M’ Shaped Endurance Course (20 minute course involving ‘M’ shaped Ironman course ) Mass Board Rescue Taplin Relay (3 males & 3 females) Round 2, Newcastle Beach (NSW), 7 January 2007 Ironman Mysteries (each competitor will draw their order from three options and will complete each leg in the order it is drawn. 6 competitors will compete in each team) Mass Board Rescue Taplin Relay (3 males & 3 females) Round 3, 17 February 2007, Coolum Beach (QLD) Individual Ironman race (the Ironman race will be split into 4 separate races consisting of Ski, Swim, Board, 1,500m Run. The points for this event will be calculated based on the results of each individual race with the leader determining the rest period after each leg Mass Board Rescue Taplin Relay (3 males & 3 females) Round 4, 18 February 2007, Coolum Beach (QLD) Sprint Ironman race (3 rounds of elimination involving board, ski and swim legs. 18 competitors to 14, 14-10 and 10-6 traditional Ironman will then occur to determine 6th-1st place) Mass Board Rescue Taplin Relay (3 males & 3 females) Final, 10 March 2007, Coogee Beach (NSW) Traditional Elimination Format (Traditional Ironman event with elimination of 18 competitors to 12, 12 – 6, and a final round to determine 6th -1st place. 2007 Kellogg’s Nutri Grain Ironman Television Times – (EDST) – Check your local guides.
