Herbert Voigt Club Cap Recognition Scheme

The identification of club caps is always difficult at an Australian Surf Life Saving Championships. An alphabetical list and written description is cumbersome to use to identify a particular club cap. Colour cap illustrations organised alphabetically are easier to identify visually but still require a fair amount of searching to find a particular club cap. Surely there has to be a better way.

There is! The answer lies in how you would look at a particular club cap in order to identify it.

For instance what club has a red cap with a central white stripe? You are looking at the club cap by its colours, in particular the main cap colour and then the colour of any features such as stripes or stars. Thus the most logical presentation of club caps is one based entirely upon the colour of the caps.

The Herbert Voigt Club Cap Recognition Scheme (HVCCRS) is based upon club caps ordered according to the main colour of the club cap. The colours are in the order of the rainbow, that is red, (maroon), orange, yellow, green, blue (light blue and turquoise then dark blue), indigo, violet, (purple) then black, brown, (grey) and white.

The club caps are furthered ordered within each colour according to features, that is single colour, (caps with central circles or diamonds, then circles around the edge, then semi circles above the sides
of the cap), 1 stripe or flash, 2 stripes or flashes, 3 stripes (2 stripes outside of central stripe of same colour as main cap colour then 3 stripes independant of the main cap colour), 4 stripes, 5 or more stripes, caps divided into halves, quarters and sixths then caps with 4 pointed stars, 6 pointed stars and finally any other feature not covered above. Within each group of club caps with the same features the club caps are then ordered by the colour of the features, with the same order of colours as above.
For club caps with multiple stripes the caps are ordered by colour of the outside stripes before the colour of the inside stripes. The pure form of any feature is ordered before any variation of the feature. For club caps with multiple features the primary feature is ordered before the secondary feature.
