In February 2004, the Surf Life Saving Foundation was the beneficiary of the Cupid's Ball, a black tie 'bachelor and spinster' gala. This event was held simultaneously in five different states: Western Australia, New South Wales, Queensland Victoria and South Australia, and raised over $20,000 for surf life saving. One of the evening's activities involved an icebreaker game, whereby contestants were 'matched up' using cards illustrated with different club caps. The cards were made using the graphics from the Club Cap Colour Guide. The Surf Life Saving Foundation expresses its gratitude to the creator of the Club Cap Colour Guide, as this contributed to the success of the evening.

Hope fully this will be complete for Rescue 2002, Dayton Beach, Florida, USA in May 2002.

Or maybe this will be complete for Rescue 2004, Viareggio, Italy, 17 to 28 September 2004.

It should be complete for Rescue 2006, in Geelong and Lorne in 2006.

There is every chance it will be complete for Rescue 2008, in Berlin Warnemundeand in 2008.

In November 2002 the following clarification was made to the Competition Manual (31st Edition)

Competition Caps: Reference is made to Section 2.4.2 Dress Of Competitors – Caps. It is advised that Section 2.4.2 has been amended to detail that competitors must start the events with caps securely tied under the chin, but will not be disqualified for "accidental" displacement of the cap.

The wording added is as follows: Caps, securely fastened under the chin, must be worn on the head at the start (including the start of each leg in the teams events) of all events. A competitor/team shall not be disqualified if a cap is inadvertently displaced or lost after the start of an event provided that officials can identify that the competitor correctly completed the course/event".

Reference is also made to Section 5.8(a) in the Surf Boat Events, Section 10, March Past Event, and Section 3.2 in the Rescue and Resuscitation event. It is advised that the loss of a cap will not result in any penalty to the team
