The Herbert Voigt Club Cap Recognition Scheme (HVCCRS) was devised to present club competition caps on the basis of colour. The HVCCRS was compiled from previous Australian Surf Life Saving Championships Programmes, back issues of Australian Surf Lifesaver magazine, videos of the Uncle Tobys Super Series and Meadow Lea Ironwoman Series, as well as observation at State and Australian Surf Life Saving Championships. Thanks to Paul Oliver and Kate Cox of Australian Surf Lifesaver Magazine / JP Publications who believed in the idea upfront and agreed to include the Club Cap Colour Guide in the programme for the 1998 Australian Surf Life Saving Championships. The HVCCRS was an immediate success on the beach offering all competitors, officials and spectators an accurate guide to the club caps of those competing.
Thank you also to everyone else who has assisted: Swanny Touring Team to the 1998 Aussies, SLSQ and Rachel Newton, SLSNZ and Janine Pollock, SLNSW, SLSV, Bob Wood and Andrea Webb, Phil McGibbon - SLSA Honourary Competition Cap Registar, Ben Harding, and The J S Battye Library of West Australian History and The Library and Information Service of Western Australia. Since this site had been up and running, Brian Spurr, of Pirates SLSC, has assisted with South African clubs and cap colours and pointed me in the direction of the Ocean Warrior Challenge. Thanks to SLSA of Great Britain, Adam and Kate Morgan for helping with clubs and cap colours in Great Britain. Greg Smith of Trigg Island SLSC assisted with a few of the South African cap colours. Kelly Timms of SLSWA (and a Swanny member) found out which branch Bowen SLSC belonged to - I owe you one Kelly! Thanks again to Matthew Bruce from Cronulla SLSC for suggesting "an alphabetical listing of club names - (in link format to the appropriate branch displaying the cap)." This will be invaluable to people who only know the club name of the cap they're looking for . For example say someone was looking for the Cronulla SLSC cap ? They may not know that it's in the Sydney Branch - which is where you would find it if you knew that. A special thank you to Danya Hodgetts, National Development Officer at Surf Life Saving Australia, who was able to tell me the last missing NSW club cap, that of Bermagui SLSC ,and inform me of the demise of Pottsville SLSC (now an outpost of Cabarita Beach SLSC). Danya has also offered to shout me a beer when I get to the Aussies - Thanks Danya! Some corrections and suggestions from Flea, Registrar of Kurrawa SLSC, concerning the cap colours of South Coast Branch in Queensland which is blue and yellow, not blue and white and the link under the South Coast Branch cap which used to take you to the wrong place. Thanks Flea. Brian Spurr, of Pirates SLSC, has again provided more South African club cap colours. Raquel Cross of South Coast Branch, Queensland was able to tell me what the AEME stood for in Mermaid Beach AEME and I was able to help her with some graphics for club caps on the South Coast Branch Annual Dinner invitation.
