Matchbox Yesteryears

Models of Yesteryear have been made by Matchbox since 1956 when Y1-1 the Allchin Traction Engine graced the shelves of toy stores. While many of the models that I have in my collection are from the more recent Tyco/Mattel years, I still have some early issues. (Somewhere, I think they must be packed in boxes, as I cannot find half of them.)

A favourite are the MG's. I have three of the 1945 MG - TC. These are all 'straw box' model Y-8. The Blue with Black seats and standard tyres : Green #3 with Red seats : Blue with Tan seats and whitewall tyres
One of the rarer pieces of YesterYear models is the Australian Art set. This was a limited run of only 1000 units, featuring the art of Jenny Kee and Pro Hart. I was fortunate enough to get one of these sets.
