One
of my favourite play-value toys as I was growing up was the gift set
#24. The Commer Constructor Kit provided numerous variations and lots
of fun. This kit is one I acquired from a fellow collector as he divested
some of his models in favour of other pursuits. I think I was fortunate
at the price and the only blemish is the missing brown seat that should
be sitting alongside the milkman.First issued in August 1963, 345000
kits were produced until its demise in 1968. |
| And
to complement the kit from the same vendor came the the June 1963
released 'County Police' Commer van. Made from the same chassis casting
and fitted with a battery holder and flashing light in the rear body
section. The model was withdrawn in 1967 after 438,000 units had been
sold. |

The
Mercedes Benz Pullman was the only model (to my knowledge) that came
with a wet windscreen. At least the 'rain' was moulded into the plastic
screen section, and the 'wipers' moved inside the screen as the wheels
turned. 977,000 of the model were sold between its release in November
1964 and its withdrawal from production only 2 years later in 1969. |
| The Aston Martin
DB4 from Corgi was the basis for the famous James Bond 007 Aston Martin. This
example is in good condition while the box is a bit rough. |
 |
Corgi
# 218 was issued in March 1960 in Red with yellow interior. The Primose
yellow and red interior was released later. This model featured the
first opening bonnet in a die-cast car that revealed a detailed engine
bay.Originally priced at UK 4/7d. |
| One
of my prize possessions. This Corgi #214S is in pristine condition.
When I first saw this model I was amazed that the tyres did not have
any signs of wear. I doubt that this car was ever played with. Issued
in June 1962 and withdrawn in 1964. It was a revamp of the original
Ford Thunderbird Hardtop first introduced in 1959.This model is cast
in two parts. The roof being separate from the body. |
