Moreton Bay Reflections

“Moreton Bay Reflections” represents the final part of Peter Ludlow’s Moreton Bay trilogy that began with “Moreton Bay People – The Complete Collection” in 2000 and was followed by “Moreton Bay Letters” in 2003.
“Moreton Bay Reflections” follows the philosophy of its predecessors with reminiscences of Moreton Bay’s history by its locals, but this time it goes further with more of Peter Ludlow’s  own interpretations, not only of Moreton Bay, but also of his own life’s philosophy.

Summary:
"Lota - through local eyes: stories of a little known Brisbane suburb and the prople who call Lota home"
tells how the suburb of Lota came into being following first settlement in 1863.
The book is divided into two parts. The first sets out a potted history of development from surveying in 1859 through provision of the first rail link, the development of primary infrastructure, and on to the year 2002. The second and larger part of the book tells the stories of the families who lived, grew, and contributed to the development of the community at Lota.
This book is as much about growing up in the 1920s, 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s as it is about Lota. It supplies a nostalgic reminder of the "good times" as well as the "hard times' and provides a looking glass into how it was to live in those days.
It has been written to capture for posterity the way in which every-day people lived their lives with the hope that future generations may find it of interest to look back and appreciate the way it was.

The book  costs $30 (includes postage) and is available from Dr J.Lergessner, 48 Rickman Parade, Woorim, Bribie Island Qld 4507. (Phone Jim on 07 34083908 for more details)

and
Bribie The Convict Weaver (Victory Press, 2005 costs $25 including postage)
and
Seaward
(Victory Press 2006 costs $28 including postage)
Summary:
Over the years many visitors to Bribie have been taken with the enchanting spirit of the place. This book chronicles the lives of a family – the Lergessners – who spent all of their holidays on Bribie Island from the early 1940s, with their dogs, Kurt and Hepsibar. It encompasses most of their waking hours and their numerous experiences while either vacationing or living there.
But please do not be fooled. The saga of “Seaward”, South Esplanade, Bribie Island, is not simply just a family history. In fact, it only uses its family members’ distinct and exceptional ‘voices’ to tell Bribie’s own story.
In particular, it traces three generations of the family’s unique connection with Bribie from after World War I: during World War II; to the heady post-war expansion, development, and suburban sprawl. In doing so, “Seaward” sets out the unique development of the island’s ‘seaside culture’. More importantly, it also sensitively trolls through the Lergessner children’s period of ‘unbridled’ growing up, highlighting, or sometimes touching upon, memorable island interludes on their rich island paradise.
