Other Cabinet Components
MarqueeThe marquee was customised in Photoshop and color laser-printed at a local desktop publishing shop "Pinot" (they were cheaper than Kinkos). The printout on plain paper was then sandwiched between two pieces of cast-acrylic that were recovered from the original cabinet shell. I think the original artwork came from MameWorld. Despite the use pf plain paper the fluorescent light does a wonderful job of illuminating the sign. The printer had not heard of special "backlight" paper media. Other techniques that were considered were printing multiple copies onto transparency film and then layering & aligning the reproductions to produce a more saturated marquee.
Marquee IlluminationA standard mains-powered fluorescent light was purchased and spliced onto a mains lead. This was plugged into the main powerboard which effectively turns on all devices within the cabinet.
SpeakersA cheapish set of speakers, with subwoofer, were purchased from a local computer swap met. Their plastic enclosures were broken open and speakers removed. The satellites were of a surprising high quality/size/weight. They mounted easily, using their four perimeter drill holes, behind the metal grill suspended beneath the marquee. Trackball and Coin Door IlluminationA variable voltage DC transformer was used to supply power to the lamps illuminating the trackball and coin door. The transformer is plugged into the cabinet's main 6 GPO power board. This means the lights turn on as soon as the cabinet is activated at the wall mains outlet.
