Firies Feature Photos

We were fortunate indeed to have the opportunity
to add
a Norfolk Island Fire Service patch to our
collection.
A big "Hi" to the firies on the most beautiful
island in the world!

The Koolpinyah Volunteers held their 'Santa
Run' in the emergency response area
on Saturday 16 December 2006.
Approximately 450 children receive 'Santa Bags'
of goodies during this annual community event.
Thanks Santa, see you next year!

On 7-9 November 2006, volunteer members of
both NTFRS and Bushfires Council NT
attended a workshop at Lake Bennett,
70km south of Darwin, and undertook training
in the South Australian Country Fire Service
'Firefighter Level 1' training course.

On 22 July 2006 the Howard
Springs volunteers were given a house to burn.
Watch how quickly this old structure burns
from the moment it is first lit (left).
One minute after lighting, the fire has
taken hold through the centre of the house

After two minutes the house has been fully
involved for some time (left), and after three minutes
the radiant heat has set
fire to exposures (note the grass alight)

At four minutes the roof collapses (left) and
after seven minutes (right) the house has been reduced
to stump level.
This was an awesome display of how quickly a
fire can totally destroy a home

A grassfire at Coolalinga on 31 August caused
by a tractor slasher maintaining open drains.
All volunteer units as well as the Palmerston
and Humpty Doo regulars turned out to combat this one

On 4 August 2006 at Trippe Road,
Humpty Doo, approximately twenty car wrecks
were engulfed in flames, apparently caused by a welding
spark
