Objectives

Neil Pollock is an information manager with more than 25 years experience in web based information delivery, librarianship, and information technology.  His career has been devoted to a single objective: providing people with the information they need by the application of appropriate technologies.

From 1974 to 1996, Neil gained almost 20 years experience in libraries.  Starting as a library assistant in 1974, he became a cataloguer and then a reference librarian, before specialising in systems automation and later moving into library management.

He has also spent two years as the computer services manager for a major local government authority.

Working exclusively in the internet development environment since 1996, Neil has moved from content manager and HTML coder, to positions of head of electronic publishing, information architect, and production manager.  He currently manages website maintenance services for a large web production house.

A key theme in his career has been the implementation of technologies to provide new ways of delivering information services.  The approach has been to see technological change as people focused, with emphases on human needs and the management of process take-up, as well as the technical aspects of systems.

In 2002 Neil has returned to university to research ideas related to improved  methods of discovery for internet based information.  He is currently interested in part-time positions focusing on information delivery, in reference and research services.
