The Chobe Safari Lodge

The Chobe Safari Lodge is located on the lush banks of the Chobe River 5 km from the gate to the world famous Chobe National Park.

Transfers from and to Kasane airport will be provided. Guests transfering by road from Vic Falls (see 'Getting to Kasane' on main page) will be transfered on Saturday 18 August to the conference registration desk at the Chobe Safari Lodge.

Various accommodation is available:

• The 'River Wing' consists of air-conditioned rooms overlooking the river, complete with TV, telephone, and en-suite facilities.
• The Luxury 'Rondavels' are spacious thatched chalets set along the river banks with overhead punka fans and en-suite facilities.
• The Rondavels are similar with slightly smaller area and more modest decor.
• A small number of special 'family suites' and 'family rooms'

• The camp site is located next to the complex.

Facilities include, curio shop, swimming pool, liquor store and fuel station. The local pub at the lodge serves as a rendevous for some of the local guides, hunters and bush pilots!

The Conference Registration Desk will be located here during the first evening (Saturday) and the following day (Sunday) of the meeting, and 6 - 6.45 am each day. Otherwise the desk will be located at the Mowana Safari Lodge each day until 14.00 hours.

GENERAL NOTES:
SINGLE ROOMS are not available in advance but may become available depending on the number of delegates registered by February 1, 2001. The single room supplement is likely to be in the range of £20 to £30 per night depending on the room. *SUPPLEMENTARY ROOM SHARES will become available only once the lodge has reached 85% capacity. This condition does not apply to supplementary room shares for accompanying children nor to the 'Puku' and 'Lechwe' River Room suites.

The 'Rondavels' are located further up on grass slope of the Chobe River bank, above the luxury Rondavels. Sleeps two with en-suite facilities. The interiors, windows and bathroom are slightly smaller than those in the luxury Rondavels.

NOTE: We are advised that 'budget rondavels' at Chobe Safari Lodge will not be upgraded but instead will replaced but are unlikely to be avilable for Chobe 2001.

A "River Room" with twin beds (which can be separated) with en suite facilties, telephone, air-conditioning, TV. This is the deluxe accommodation of the Chobe Safari Lodge, with either a balcony view or patio door access to the lawn fronting the Chobe River.

The "Puku" and "Lechwe" suites are named for two species of rare antelope endemic to Chobe. The suites are the premier accommodation of Chobe Safari Lodge.

The suites consist of bedroom and lounge. As with the "River Room" but with a double bed with en suite facilities including bath and shower, telephone, air-conditioning. One suite comes with a balcony view and the other with patio door access to the lawn fronting the Chobe River.

The two sofa couches in the lounge convert to beds providing room to sleep up to 4 people. This accommodation is ideal for a delegates with accommpanying family, or perhaps for a group of 3 to 4 people interested in sharing. Budget "Barge" - really excellent river views

This "African Queen" was used to travel length of the Chobe river. Now permanently ashore the "barge" has been refitted to provide bunk style accommodation in bunk style rooms.
The "barge" is situated on the riverbank path between the camp site and the main lodge, just a stonethrow from the river. Terrace decks for hippo and croc spotting!

It's also very convenient for the camp site - pontoon bar with just about the best views in Kasane.

Really excellent value for money!

"The Old Staff House"

The "Old Staff House" is currently undergoing a complete refurbishment and with four single beds will be suitable for a group sharing.

The Old Staff House was previously occupied by the manager's family and is directly adjacent on the main lodge lawns and in a very convenient location but set aside from the busy centre of the lodge. A walk of 20 m takes you to reception and then to bar, terrace restaurant and pool dining areas. Complete with private veranda this is very "nice" accommodation.


In this view the Old Staff House is the furthest building on the right, on the far side of the lawns.

This room can be reserved only as a complete unit with four beds.

There are two of these family units - each quite different. The first (room 17 shown above) is a bungalow style unit with two separate bedrooms, each with twin beds, with a private shower and toilet between them. The second unit (room 21) is comprised of two Rondavels combined into a single structure and with similar bed, shower and toilet facilities. Room 17 (shown) is adjacent to the interior gardens and pool terrace area, fronting onto the walkway to the Rondavels. Room 21 is located with the other, single, rondavels on the lawns above the river.

NOTE: Each room can take an extra bed. The Lodge managers have agreed to supply extra beds should there be demand but please see General Notes above.

This accommodation is especially suitable for 4 - 6 people on limited budgets who would consider sharing the units.

Guests are covered by Medical Rescue International (MRI) as well as 24 hour access to Kasane Clinic.

NOTE: All delegates staying as guests of the Chobe Safari Lodge will be pre-booked on drives and cruises from the lodge operator since the Hotel's policy does not cover guests for MRI when using outside operators.
