About Mia Lacy

Since returning to Cairns in 1988, Mia Lacy has worked in both the media and tourism industries. As a commercial writer, she has freelanced for advertising agencies and local tourism operators preparing press, radio and television advertisements and writing many of the brochures and videos which promote the region's premier tourist attractions. In a public relations capacity, Mia has prepared news releases, corporate communications, and has project managed special events at all levels in the tourism industry.

The local tourism bureau, Tourism Tropical North Queensland, produces an annual regional magazine of some 200,000 copies. For the past five years Mia has worked with the project's managers Bolton Inprint, writing the magazine content and creative themes for the publication. The magazine has won the Media award in the TTNQ Tourism Awards 5 times, has twice won the Media category at the Queensland Tourism Awards, and in 2000 won the Media category at the national Australian Tourism Awards.

During her career, Mia has designed and managed marketing support events such as product launches, trade exhibitions, celebrity galas, political receptions and sporting tournaments. She has also worked for Tourism Queensland and The Australian Tourist Commission acting as a media guide and location assistant for VJP (Visiting Journalist Programs) for film crews around Tropical North Queensland.

Mia graduated from the Auckland Technical Institute with an advertising degree, working for national and international agencies in Auckland as a copywriter before returning to Cairns. Her responsibilities included such diverse accounts as Levis, Air New Zealand, NZ Woman's Weekly, Nestle, Nescafe, Maggi and Coca-Cola.

Brought up in Cairns, Mia lived on her family's cane farm at the Northern Beaches when the premier industry of Tropical North Queensland was sugar cane. Today she lives at Clifton Beach, where she works as a freelance writer and public relations consultant.
