Research in this branch of our family started when we obtained a certificate of the marriage
between William Rees Williams and Rachel Evans dated 31 January, 1889 at the Swansea
Register Office.
William Rees Williams, age 29 Blocklayer, Residence – Lucas Road, Glaish, Llansamlet,
Father’s Name – Thomas Williams, Carpenter.


Rachel Evans, age 24 Servant, Residence 10 Waterloo Street, Swansea, Father’s name –
Daniel Evans, Collier.

Witnesses – Thomas Williams and Daniel Evans.


On the 1901 Census for Birchgrove, Llansamlet Higher (printed in full on the
Williams page) Rachel is said to be born in Cwmamman, Carmarthenshire.
We then found Daniel Evans and a Rachel Evans  of the right age in the
1871 Census for Llansamlet Higher, RG10/5440, District 2, but now Rachel
is said to be born in Bettws, Carmarthenshire.

We then found a Daniel Evans, the son of Samuel and Rachel Evans on the 1851 Census
for Llanegwad.  He is of the right age to be the Daniel Evans in the 1871 Census.
We have a marriage certificate for 26th November 1858 between Daniel Evans, Full Age
Servant of Byarthan, Father's name Samuel Evans, Farmer and Jane Lewis Under Age
of Penybont. Father's name David Lewis, Publican.  Witnesses Samuel Evans and
Eleanor Evans

We have also found a David Evans age 2 in the 1861 Census for Llanegwad
that matches the son of Daniel Evans in the 1871 Census and he could be staying with
his mother's parents in 1861.
