William St has been expensively remodelled by the City Council, with new footpaths and bike lanes installed on the assumption that the CCT would mean lower traffic volumes in William St. This obviously hasn't happened, due to the reluctance of motorists to pay for such a crap facility (and some also you would have to say some very selfish attitudes), and Iemma is stuck with traffic jams and complaints from motorists and East Sydney residents.

BikePlan2010 promised that all new road infrastructure projects would include provision for cycling.  The Minister for Planning's Approval Conditions for the Cross City Tunnel project included a requirement for bike lanes on William Street.  Action for Air (1998) promised to triple cycling levels.  BikePlan2010 also promised $25 million per annum for ten years for cycling infrastructure - that dropped to $15 million and is now just $5 million per annum.  Compare that with the $3.3 billion road budget!

Time to say what you think (as politely as you can) and give good reasons why the Iemma Government needs to have bike lanes on William Street and a budget for cycling infrastructure which will solve their problems.  This government _does_ bow to sufficient pressure.
