Leichhardt Council Bike Strategy 2007

The new bike plan (called the Leichhardt Bicycle Stategy) was approved in 2007. See the Executive Summary and the full plan. The consultant who did the plan was Alan Stewart, from GT Associates. He had 6 years working for Transport for London (TfL) and has experience with the London Bike Plan. He also worked for Mosman Council on their new Bike Plan.

LBUG provided input (see links below) and was consulted on the first and second drafts of the Strategy.

A Bicycle Advisory Committee, with LBUG representatives, is overseeing the development of the Strategy and its implementation. The support of Councillors Rochelle Porteous and Carolyn Allen (Mayor in 2007-8) is appreciated.

If you have any comments on cycling in Leichhardt and what improvements could be made to cycling infrastructure, or in other areas such as safety, speed limits, access, ways to encourage more cycling, etc, are sought and will be posted here.

If you wish to support the bike plan please write to the Mayor and your local ward councillor congratulating them and asking them to provide adequate funding for five years to get it implemented. Councillor contacts are on the Council website.
