Dont miss the next Big Leichhardt Bike Day on Sunday, 12 October, 2008 in War Memorial Park, corner of Moore and Catherine St, Leichhardt. A big crowd of local cyclists, young and old, enjoyed the last bike day, including the Big Ride around the foreshores, Hawthorne Canal and the White's Creek path. (NB, War Memorial Park is NOT Pioneer Park on Norton St.)
Free BBQ for cyclists (need to register at 10am). Bike skills course, games, prizes to be won, & raffles. BMX/MTB exhibition from Paul King and Rapid Descent. Stalls for local bike groups. Big Ride at noon. Come along and meet local cyclists.

Contact LBUG or Leichhardt Council (Aaron Callaghan, 9367 9281, AaronC@lmc.nsw.gov.au, or Maayan Amiezier, Mamiezer@lmc.nsw.gov.au) for more info on the event, or to volunteer. Volunteers are wanted to be marshalls for the Big Ride at Noon around Leichhardt and to help with races and skills competitions etc. Sponsors and bikeshop displays also wanted. Help make it a great day for cyclists.

For safety's sake make sure your bike is working properly before the day, particularly brakes and tyres. If you need help get your bikes checked and repaired at the following bike shops:
Velofix- Darling St, Rozelle, opposite Cambridge St.
Stanmore Cycles - Parramatta Rd, Stanmore (up from Johnston St).
Inner City Cycles - Glebe Pt Rd.
Cheeky Transport - off King St, Newtown.
Clarence St Cyclery - City.
Cellbikes - Parramatta Rd, Stanmore (City side of Johnston St)
Balmain Cranks - Darling St, Rozelle, between Beattie and Wisbeach Sts.
How to get to Catherine St by bike:
from Glebe or Ultimo, follow the new foreshore path from Taylor St and Glebe Secondary College or go down Glebe Pt Rd to Bicentennial Park and over Johnstons Creek footbridge to the Timber Yard (Chapman Rd). Cross The Crescent at the Johnston St lights and go along The Crescent on the footpath past the mural, to the path under the Light Rail that leads to Railway Pde. Go along to Brenan St and at the top of hill turn left into Catherine St. The park is just before the lights at Moore St. Or you could take the Light Rail (bikes are free) to end of line at Lilyfield. Cross the City West Link at lights and follow Catherine St southward to Moore St.
From Annandale, go down Piper St to Catherine St, or down Whites Creek to Piper St, or follow Booth St (marked bike lane) which becomes Moore St.
From Leichhardt/Haberfield: follow Allen St to Leichhardt High, then Moore St to Catherine St Park.
From Balmain, via Buchanan and Roberts St to the Victoria Rd pedestrian bridge at White Bay and along Lilyfield Rd to Catherine St. or take the scenic route from Terry St down to the foreshores and under the Iron Cove Bridge, along the Bay Run to Wharf Rd near the oval. Go up to the top of Wharf Rd and use Balmain Rd to cross the City West Link and turn left down Piper St to Catherine St.
From Pyrmont and the City: over the Anzac Bridge cycleway or through Glebe. You can also take the Light Rail - bikes free.
From Ashfield : Use Sloane St from Summer Hill Station to cross Parramatta Rd and get onto the Hawthorne Canal cyclepath at Lords Rd. Cross Marion St and follow cyclepath to the pedestrian bridge over the canal near the basketball courts. From the railway underpass turn left and follow the cycleroute along Allen St and cross Norton St. Turn left at Derbyshire Rd behind the High School, and right at Moore St West. Cross Balmain Rd and follow Moore St to Catherine St. The park is on the left just before the lights.
