Raiders Club was initially the Air force Club which was formed by Pam
and Jan around 1975. It consisted of Air force personnel and later
their dependants who played in the Under 10's. As the ladies left the
Air force and families were posted it was decided to change the Clubs
name and Raiders was chosen as the word "raid" meant just.
It was then decided when Teams were formed especially Juniors that we should have names of birds that were birds of prey like the "Raptor" we should try and keep an air force element. The current U10 teams of today are Harriers and Falcons both birds of prey and both RAAF aircraft. Other names have been Ravens and the odd one out Robins (never seen a Robin raid a nest or anything for that matter) nor Mynas (although they do pinch eggs from nests) We have had Eagles as well.
The Club motto
CESSARE is Latin for "To Strike" and our newsletter
"Between Raids" is suitably named.
The Club Has 5 worthy Life Members Jan Harrison, Shirley O'Loughlin, Pam
Nelson, Julia Kirwan and at our presentation last year Dawn Ryan our hard
working Treasurer was awarded her life membership.
The Club has been extremely successful in its representative players
especially Juniors and they continue today to excel with Jade Close in
the U18 Under 21 and NSW Institute of Sport and the U18 Aus development
Team. Vanessa Kristaly was named in the U15 State Team this year also.
Our players have been in state U16,s Under 18 Under 21's CHS and NHL.
The club in Pam Nelson has trained many umpires for the Association.
Jan Harrison is also a Life Member of WDWHA. Pam Nelson, Jan Harrison
and
Jennifer Davis are and have been on the Executive or a committee of
Western Districts for many years (Jennifer recently)
The Club has players playing in Sydney in the Metro League of hockey and
we have a "sister Club" in the Esquires Club which boasts State National
and Australian players. The players have played with our first Division
and given many coaching sessions in "Youth Squads" run by Jan.
