PROOFING

Business Computing Tips
By K&K Fainges kfainges@bigpond.net.au
After last time, I thought I should
do an article on proofing. With spell checkers, I for one have become a
bit lazy allowing the computer to proof it for me. But you need to check
a few things.
There are words are not ones you
wanted, like the dag sat of the fence. Here both dag and of are wrong.
Reading the sentence out load helps to proof this, but be careful to
read what is actually there.
Then checking your links (because
it can be embarrassing when they don't work).
But the old spell checker does
help. Found under TOOLS in most programs, it often works by hitting the
F7 key as well. Remember which language you computer is in though.
Australian English and American are not necessarily compatible. To
change the language, most programs have an OPTIONS tag on the Menu, or
it will be under tools. Have a hunt around. It's worth having a look at
the things you can change on your system. Within programs like Word,
there is very little you can do to hurt anything. Just check the
defaults before you change things so you can set it back if you don't
like it.
