Business Computing Tips

Being online and offline can be confusing. Online is when you use your
modem (or lan) to connect to the internet. If you are using a modem, you will
normally have a small icon that appears in the bottom right hand corner of
your desktop that looks like two tiny computers linked by a dotted line. This
shows you whether you are online or not. Right clicking on that icon will let
you check your status.
When you are browsing the internet (using Internet Explorer or Netscape or
similar program) you need to be online at all times. You can save pages to
look at later by going to FILE => SAVE, but any new pages need to be viewed
while you are connected.
Email though, can be written anytime. If you write an e-mail message when
offline, choose FILE => SEND LATER from the top of the new email. Your
email will be stored in the Outbox. Then, once you connect to the internet, just click the Send and Receive button.
Doing it this way lets you think about what you want to write without wasting
valuable online time.
Cheap Hint:
Visit http://search.officeupdate.microsoft.com/TemplateGallery/ct94.asp
for a great list of templates done up for all sorts of letters, cards,
databases, spreadsheets and more.
