BOWLS AT KILLARA GOLF CLUB
THE BOWLERS' ROAD IS BORN

In the 1960's the course reconstruction work being carried out to do with the course watering system eliminated the access from Buckingham Road & Golf Links Road preventing any use of a plot to the west of No 2 green. It also prevented access of trucks with top dressing material of course. Several members asked that a road be constructed to enable cars to be driven to the green thus saving the walk back to the clubhouse after play. See the map at the end of this page for the location of this access.

As all heavy equipment was on site and this whole area was a swamp in the wet weather, the time seemed right to request the Club Committee to consider the construction of a road in from Buckingham Road and a car parking area. The suggestion was well received by General Committee and after discussion on 20 April 1950 they decided that Mr. Ramsay would confirm whether it was possible for bowlers to keep their bowls in an area at the pavilion. However the project was not properly completed until some 40 years later when the road from the gate was asphalt sealed and the car park up-graded.
