The Killara Golf Club has one of the most unique set-ups in the country in that it has a golf course that rates with the top ones in Australia, two all weather tennis courts and two of the best and certainly most pleasantly situated bowling greens.

Trees and gardens surround the greens with not a road in sight. In fact the nearest public thoroughfare would be perhaps a third of a kilometre away. Bowlers have their own pavilion which provides bar and refreshments and a view over the greens.

The bowls section which comprises some 60 males and 60 females is unaffiliated with the Royal NSW Bowling Association (RNSWBA) so, as such, the men are not required to wear creams apart from the first Tuesday in each month as a link with the past and the women, white or navy for interclub matches. All other times, dress must be smart casual as Killara Golf Club is a top-level private club and expects its members to dress appropriately. Top level it may be - stuffy it is not.

Even though they are not an "official" bowling club, they conduct their own championships, social and mixed events. They also have cumulative competitions that continue throughout the year. Some of their regular players also belong to affiliated clubs in conjunction, enabling them to play pennants but most are happy enjoying the competitiveness of KGC.

Women, providing they are club members, are encouraged to play in medley competitions with the men on Saturdays. This is different to many bowls clubs where Saturday is sacrosanct - for men only.

Coaching facilities (both amateur and professional) are available at the greens for members requiring same and "loan bowls" for experimental roll-ups can be arranged by contacting any of the committee members on the Committee Page.
