Up Close and Personal This is just a page of various pieces of equipment in use by members of the club. As a result it is a little picture heavy. Still that's what you are here for. I will add more as I long as soon as I am able. Along with each image will be a small amount of information.
Here is some mail armour with a AA battery for size. I will give you sizes as wire diameter x internal diameter and all sizes in mm. From left clockwise are links that are; 1.29 x 6 galvanised wire; 1.6 x 8 spring steel; 1.4 x 6 spring steel; 2 x 8 galvanised wire; 1.6 x 8 riveted mild steel and 1.6 x 6 spring steel. Belts
A number of belts that are currently in use by club members. All of these were fittings were made by Birka Traders. Shoes
It has been said that, "Clothes maketh the man", but in re-enactment, it is shoes. These shoes are in various states of wear (newest from anticlockwise right). They were made by Birka Traders or by club members. This picture is a bit rubbish, so I will endeavour to get a better more illustrative shot in the future. Shields
We find these devices oddly useful in combat. They also make reasonable tables, for playing games such and for sitting on if the ground is a bit damp. Occasionally they have also been used as pillows, giant Frisbees and markers for scenarios in combat. Helmets
We also find these useful in combat. They keep the sun off your head. I shall try to get a better picture of these soon, as the afternoon shadows proved a little too much. They are mainly multi-plate spangenhelms, with a Vendel helm on the left front, a Pictish warriors helm on the front right. There is a Gjermundbu helmet at the back, but the shadows have eaten it. Weapons There was a picture of some weapons here but it was so horrible I have decided to veto it in favour of a later better series of photos. Arrows These arrows, of varying styles, are in use amongst the various groups and subgroups of Fire and Steel. They can also be purchased from Bind Fury
