About the Domestic Violence Advocacy Service The Domestic Violence Advocacy Service is the only statewide community based organisation whose sole brief is the area of domestic violence, consequently we act as a peak body The DVAS was established to provide a free confidential legal service for women experiencing domestic violence. The service provides casework services, education and training for service providers and is actively involved in relevant policy and law reform. Telephone Advice Line: Our telephone advice line operates four days per week. The service is always in demand with calls for assistance not only from women experiencing domestic violence but also from service providers eg. refuge workers, police,solicitors, seeking legal advice and guidance regarding their clients. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday 9.30am -12.30pm &1.30pm - 4.30pm Many of the women who ring us have initiated some action already and we offer them the following:- * representation by a DVAS solicitor; * referral to other legal representation or support agencies; * negotiation and advocacy with police and other agencies." |
