Journal June - July
Now...

October 3 2003 - the vortex of motherhood

Glancing over this fairly poor excuse for a journal, I realise immediately that two months have passed without an update. No, we haven't dropped off the face of the earth, rather we have descended further and further into it, into the vortex of motherhood, or parenthood, I should say, <with apologies to fathers everywhere>.

It's amazing, really, how the world just passes you by in these first few months with a baby. So much is happening in our little microcosm that world events don't really rate much of a blip, compared with, say, the earth shattering potential of immunisations, sleep patterns, teething and feeding. The rich texture of our little life with Edie makes our old life seem pale and insignificant. Even if it does seem kinda mundane from the outside; believe you me, it's vibrant, exciting, scary and...oh my goodness I've lost my train of thought entirely now, because the baby's woken up...so I guess it's sort of disjointed too. I float through the days, sometimes filled with fear, sometimes filled with joy, triumph, sadness and exhilaration all rolled into one.

Since I last wrote, on...err...28th July, the world has opened up for us. Edie and I have been on a trip interstate, to Melbourne to visit Frances and Andrew and little Olive. Although I was extremely nervous about the trip it went very well, with Edie sleeping like a trooper in a funny little snuggle bed high up on a table. We dealt with the long drive to the airport, the flights, the Melbourne chill, strange surroundings and missing Daddy; and the worst part of the whole trip was the drive home from the airport. It was all too much for the poor little bean and she cracked a fruity all the way from Blacktown to the mountains.

Next week we take on South Australia.

Before I had Edie, I used to think my life had meaning, but I knew *nothing*.
