Emic-Extended Mic-stand Interface Controller

Recently received a grant from the Australia Council for the Arts, as part of the Contemporary Australian Instrument Builders Initiative - 'Sounding Out'.

The funding is for the development of a gestural controller for contemporary vocal performance and electronic processing in collaboration with Ian Stevenson. The project involves an investigation of the gestures and movements of vocalists who use microphones and microphone stands. These gestures appear to form the foundation of a well-practiced 'language' and social code for communication between performers and audiences. The prototype design is based on a modified microphone stand and aims to capture the common gestures used by contemporary vocal performers.

A paper summarising the project to date can be found here.
