WHAT IS THE MOUNT ISA DISTRICT BOWHUNTERS CLUB?

As the name implies, we are a club for people whom have an interest in bows and arrows, be it the actual hunting side, just the target shooting side or a combination of both. Bowhunting, (also known as Field Archery) although similar to Archery, differs from Archery by way of the targets shot. Bowhunters shoot at simulated feral animal targets set in a bush type surround, whereas Archers shoot at the classic bullseye type targets on flat, open ground. We are also a very sociable group and welcome visitors to come out and see what we do.

WHERE CAN I FIND THE MOUNT ISA DISTRICT BOWHUNTERS?

We can be found at our Clubhouse on the bank of the Leichhardt River behind the Lake Moondarra Caravan Park. Access to the grounds is via a short dirt road, which starts on the left-hand side of the Lake Moondarra access road immediately after the first grid. Just follow the road through the hills and you will come out at our Clubhouse, which is surrounded by a lush lawn and native trees. Our Clubhouse has very good facilities including toilets, showers, cooking equipment and more for the members to enjoy.

WHEN DO THE BOWHUNTERS MEET?

The Mount Isa District Bowhunters shoot several different ranges adjacent to the Clubhouse at 9.00am on every second Sunday. Every alternate shoot is either an ABA (Australian Bowhunters Association) shoot or what we call a Fun Shoot. The ABA Shoots are conducted to a National standard (as set by ABA) and it is these shoots on which our members are graded.

Please refer to the2006 Shoot Calendar for Mount Isa shoot dates, or click here for the rest of Zone B (North Queensland) shoot dates.

We also conduct night shoots at the Clubhouse on the Wednesday night following the Sunday shoot, starting at 6.30pm.

We can also be found at the Carpentaria Buffalo Club every Thursday afternoon from about 5.45pm to 7.00pm, where we sell raffle tickets. Monthly Committee meetings are held on the weekend of each Fun Shoot (immediately following the shoot), and all are welcome.
