Jim MacLean Trophy (Best Sportsmen) List - history (post Cancon DBM 2007))

In February 2006 Jim MacLean, an enthusiastic and popular Sydney DBM-er, suffered a severe stroke. Unfortunately it appears unlikely that Jim will ever return to the wargaming circuit where he was such a good natured and valued player.

The EMIRS club in Sydney have created a perpetual trophy to remember and honour Jim's involvement in Australian wargaming and ancients in particular. The Jim MacLean trophy will be awarded to the player voted to have shown the greatest sportsmanship and enthusiasm while enhancing other's enjoyment at competitions each year. These are qualities similar to those Jim displayed during his wargaming career.

To determine the trophy winner, after each competition the organiser or umpire nominates 3 players to receive 3-2-1 points based on their sportsmanship, enthusiasm and goodwill to other players. The winner will be the player who garners the most such points during the year.

The inaugural award of the Jim MacLean Trophy occurred at Cancon 2007. There were actually joint winners that year: Steve Jones (of Sydney) and Harry Dunn (of Adelaide).

The second award of the Jim MacLean Trophy occurred at Cancon 2008. The winner (in respect of 2007) was: Rowland Dickinson (of Adelaide).

Congratulations to both Steve, Harry & Rowland. Congratulations also to all of the other players who earned sportsmanship points last year. Keep up the good work.
