Attempting application of finishing materials over products with different
solvent bases (dope over paint) usually results in unsatisfactory results. The
exception to this would be the use of water-based paints and would still
require testing over a small area of the model that is out of eye sight. I
understand that Nelson markets fuel proof water based paints for the hobby.
From much personal experience, I have learned that the water based automotive
primers (I use Dupoint) are very effective when painting over projects of
different solvent bases. Would imagine that the down side of all of this is the
amout of additional weight you will be adding to the airframe... on a 1/4 scale
cub with light wing loading, that might be a moot point. Good luck, Bill

Your plane can be recoated with enamel based paint the rule
is if u use nitrate dope as a top coat u can use any enamel
or lacquer based paint if you use buytrate dope you must
use a butyrate or enamel based paint as nitrate is lacquer
compatable and will attack butyrate. I restore many full
size aircraft and am asked this often, you can use lacquer
thinner to reduce both nitrate and butytrate dopes.
