Louis is a Clinical Neuropsychologist and Counselling Psychologist. He is a registered psychologist in Queensland and he has been practising as a psychologist in Queensland since 1974. He is a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS), and the APS College of Clinical Neuropsychologists (he is currently the Membership Secretary for the National Executive of the APS College of Clinical Neuropsychologists), a member of the International Neuropsychological Society. He is a member of the Australian Hypnosis Society and he has over 25 years of experience as a hypnotherapist.

He has been employed by the Queensland Department of Community Health as a Clinical Psychologist. He has worked as a consultant clinical psychologist and neuropsychologist at the Royal Brisbane Hospital and in the pain clinic at the Wesley Hospital. He was a senior lecture in psychology at what is now the Central Queensland University. He has been involved in over 7000 medico legal assessments and often appears as an expert witness in forensic matters.

He has been undertaking career guidance and vocational testing for many years and has assisted hundreds of clients in their career choices.
