Assignment 1 for CLB341 - Language, Technology and Education

Welcome to my Online Learning Resource designed for Senior Biology students. The two learning activities within this resource provide an insight into the fascinating world of marine organisms. You probably thought any animals coming from the sea were only good for eating with chips and tomato sauce...............

.........or for viewing on your reef holiday, of course

BUT there's more to these creatures than meets the eye!

For example, did you know there's a link between this sulphurous smoker found on the ocean floor......... and one of the most important  scientific discoveries of all time?

The Web Quest activity on this website will allow you to learn about the expanding field of science known as Marine Biotechnology - How can marine organisms be used to provide desirable products for research into disease? or for monitoring pollution?

Part of the answer lies in discovering extreme marine habitats and the adaptations required for marine organisms to survive.

Not everyone can be a HERO unfortunately - you will also find out about (what I term) the VILLAINS of the sea - those organisms considered as harmful and poisonous pests.

This activity contains hyperlinks to real data collected on the physical and biological attributes of a marine ecosystem. Decide what factors are important in determining the distribution patterns of phytoplankton, the algae that can cause harmful algal blooms.
