Ryno’s Rundown,
Wakefield Park, 23 – 24 August
On the weekend of the 23rd
and 24th of August I competed in the fourth round of the MRRDA
series, held at New South Wales’, Wakefield Park.
Going into this meeting, I knew I’d
have one hell of a fight on my hands. Fellow competitors Josh Hook and Brody
Nowlan are a pair of fly-weights.
When you couple this with the fact that they can certainly ride a
motorcycle, it was a sure bet there’d be a fair whack of paint-swapping going
down over the two days.
Saturday’s qualifying was without
question, difficult. And I could
only manage to slot my Mega Motorcycles Honda CBR150 into position four,
with Hook, Jones and Nowlan constituting the front row respectively. A front row berth, however, was not at
all disappointing. In fact, I had
confidence in my ability to bring home the bacon.
Sunday’s racing was awesome. In each of the three races, only about
0.2 of one second separated first place from fourth. Multiple lead changes occurred during
each clash, and each leg was truly anyone’s to win.
Posting 3-2-2 results for the round
gave me my fourth consecutive podium for the season – or at least that’s
what I thought! The day’s victor,
however, was Josh (Hook), with Brody (Nowlan) achieving an outstanding
second.
I now know how ‘little Johnny’ feels at
the Goulburn Correctional Centre, when ‘big Bubba’ turns the lights
out! A point-scoring alteration at
presentation ensured I wasn’t part of the podium celebrations. Woody (Paul Edwards) has informed dad
that he introduced a new half-point system on the day, which unfortunately
slapped me down to fourth. As the
saying goes, though, “What doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger.”
With one more round to go – at Phillip
Island on September 6 and 7 – this year’s championship is guaranteed to go
down to the wire.
Charge hard,
Ryan
