Dymond Back on Track for 2008
14-year-old Queensland road racer, Ryan Dymond, has
confirmed his competition plans for ’08.
The youngster has formalised a
partnership agreement with his long-time supporter and previous Australian
Superbike Champion, Tony Armstrong.
“My plans for this year were looking
uncertain because Motorcycling Australia (MA) imposes a minimum age
restriction on the class I was planning to move into,” said Ryan.
The winner of the 2007 MRRDA Honda
CBR150 Junior Championship, Dymond approached Armstrong with a plan to
rebuild his 15-year-old Moriwaki MH80, with the goal to go head-to-head
against some of the lighter, more nimble, 2007 junior GP machines.
Ryan explained, “Basically we decided
to give the AMCN Junior Nationals an all-out assault on my old
dinosaur. I’m going to be monumentally behind the eight-ball in terms
of machinery, but that’s going to be half the fun – hopefully I’ll be up at
pointy end – only time will tell.”
Sponsoring the young fellow since the
age of 9, Armstrong said, “It’s important for him to be on-track and
banging bars in the lead up to when I put him on a Moriwaki MD250”.
“He’ll be eligible to compete in July
on the larger bike. Being only several months away, this will enable
us to test and develop the new machine; so my decision to fund both projects was strategic
rather than short-term in nature,” he added.
Australian Motorcycle News (AMCN) has
also confirmed today that its partnership with the teenager will continue
in 2008. The magazine’s Editor, Mick Matheson, has asked him to
contribute to the magazine for the AMCN Junior Nationals.
Elated about the opportunity, Dymond
said, “I had a mad-arse time last year writing my column. To do it
again will be absolutely awesome. Just being associated with AMCN is
a real privilege.”
McLeod Accessories who have also
partnered with the youngster for the past 6 years has come on-board again
in ’08 with the provision of Teknic Leathers, HJC Helmets and SIDI Boots.
With the continued support from MAGS
Spray Painting and with new partners, RB Racing and SKINS Compression Garments,
now online, the small Queensland-based operation is developing a nice potpourri
of strategic partners.
The first round of the AMCN Junior
Nationals will be held on Sunday 30 March at Wakefield Park,
NSW.
