Sydney Boating Tragedy
Simone, Alan, Morgan and Liz
From top left - Simone, Alan, Morgan and Liz

APSA and friends are reeling in surreal disbelief at the loss of  some very dear members of our skating community. Wednesday 28th of March, 2007 marks the day of Australia's skating world's worst nightmare, the terrible ferry disaster on Sydney Harbour.

Four people died in the accident with two people seriously injured. Among the dead were international skating judges, Sydney anaesthetist Dr Alan Blinn, Simone Moore and Jamie, friend of Alan and Simone. A search has found the body of Morgan Innes, 14-year-old junior skater  from Queensland.

Respected coach and former Olympian Liz Cain underwent an emergency amputation of her left leg and Rita Zonnekeyn, a world-class skating judge from Belgium, suffered serious injuries of a broken pelvis and leg injuries.

Our deepest heart-felt sympathy and thoughts go out to family and friends of the victims. In particular, Lei, Andrew and Owen Blinn; Paul, Adelaide, Clarrie, and Matilda Moore; Rob, Kim and Curtis Innes and Jamie's mother and family. Our support and thoughts also go to the Lynch family and Rita's husband, Walter Van Der Broeke. Read moreReare  Ph

Reg Park benefit

As you are no doubt aware Canberra recently suffered horrendous fires that resulted in one of our most well-known and respected coaches, Reg Park, loosing everything. He was left with only his passport, wallet and beloved cat.
His home with magnificent gardens of which he was justifiably proud, paintings, art equipment and years of skating memorabilia were all destroyed.
