Criteria for Level 1 Coaching Accreditation

Applicants must:

1.        Complete 40 hours as an apprentice with any APSA approved senior coach (a coach of not less than 10 years experience. These hours must be done standing in on lessons with senior coach and must be logged by the applicant and signed by the coach. ALL apprentice hours must be completed covering the levels contained in the course, beginner to Elementary 2 Pattern & Elements.

2.        Be a current financial member of APSA or their state branch of ISA Inc.

3.        Undertake the Sport Specific ("ON ICE") section. The General Principles component of the course (through your state Department of Sport Recreation)

After completing the course, to be accredited Level 1 coach, the applicant must:

4. Return Level 1 Accreditation Log Book to Level 1 Accreditation Officer. 

Test requirements:-

Singles -        
Elementary 1 Pattern and Elements (or equivalent). You must have either passed yourself or have 2 pupils passed the required level (or equivalent).

Dance - 
Elementary 1. You must have either passed yourself or have 2 pupils passed the
required level (or equivalent).

Synchronized Skating -         
Must have competed at Novice Level State/ National Championships.

To be eligible for Sports Liability Insurance and Professional Indemnity Insurance for Professional Coaching, members must be 18 years of age and over.

NOTE:
This criteria relates to applicants who have never coached before. If the applicant has been coaching and wishes to undertake Level 1 Course they must provide proof of their coaching experience by way of a letter from their Skating School Director, Rink Manager or Amateur Association. All test or technical requirements must be in line with the ISA Inc. rules and regulations. When accreditation is completed and registered with Australian Sports Commission the professional coaches may proceed to Level 2.

ALL apprentice hours MUST be done ON ICE.
