Certificate IV in Project Management
The
Certificate IV in Project Management is designed for those who aspire
to achieve great results in managing projects, ensuring that each
and every project is successful in the workplace. The course is
suitable for those who collaborate on projects in a team environment
as well as for those who take on full responsibility for managing
projects from conception through to completion.
The topics in this course cover the nine established
principles of project management based on the internationally recognised
Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK). The PMBOK formed the
basis for the development of the Australian National Competency
Standards for Project Management. This course is aligned with the
nationally recognised Certificate IV in Project Management which
is the endorsed course by the peak body of project management, the
Australian Institute of Project Management.
Project Management is completed in 5 workshops where
the emphasis will be placed on learning and practicing the eight
principles of project management. Workshops will use a comprehensive
case study to apply project management principles to real-life situations.
In addition, each participant will be expected to develop a workplace
project during the course, which will form part of the formal assessment
process.

The structure of this course is based on the assumption
that project management is not an entry level qualification and
that learners are likely to have existing training and qualifications.
The course provides information and activities that support self-directed
learning and assessment, therefore a high level of literacy and
comprehension will be required as well as significant work experience.
All assessment materials must be submitted typed, either in pdf
or Word format. Handwritten materials will not be accepted.
This course is designed to increase the professional’s
skills in areas pertinent to their employment and future employment
opportunities. Participants can continue towards further education
by enrolling in the Diploma of Project Management. A statement of
attainment will be issued for each unit successfully completed.
This training course follows the recommended duration
of 260 nominal hours.
The fees for the Certificate IV in Project Management
course are $2500, with a 20% deposit required two weeks prior to
commencement of the course. 10% discount is provided to participants
for full up-front payment of fees at commencement of course. Payment
plans can be arranged through the Academy of Career Training. Fees
paid through the payment plan system will incur a 10% processing
fee and will be $2750. Course places are strictly limited.
Includes: Workshops, individual study materials,
templates, textbook and project support.
There are no additional materials required. Learning
guides and readings will be provided during the course for each
unit. Whilst software such as Microsoft’s Project 2003 will
be referred to and demonstrated, the purchase of software will be
at the discretion of the participant and the cost will be borne
by the participant. Project management software is not required
in order to successfully complete this course.
Assessment will be based on 4 areas of competency.
- Theory questions: are designed to allow the candidate
to demonstrate underpinning knowledge.
- Portfolio of documentary evidence: a collection
of documents that the candidate produces in the course of everyday
work.
- Third party evidence reports: provides an overall
assessment from a supervisor or colleague who has already gained
competence in the area being assessed.
- Assessor interview summary: as part of the quality
assurance procedure, the Assessor will call the candidate to discuss
the assessment and ask questions specifically related to the evidence
submitted.
Each tool provides a different type of evidence which
alone is not sufficient to demonstrate competence, however together
provide a well-rounded picture of the candidate’s ability
to perform competently and confidently in the workplace to the level
set down in the National Business Services Competency Standards.
Recognition of Prior Learning is available and will
be documented in a Recognition Assessment Tool. The Recognition
Assessment Tool is ‘organised’ around the eight (8)
units contained in the Qualification Certificate IV in Project Management.
It also reflects the different activities in the four (4) phases
to Project Management: Proponent phase; Approval phase; Implementation
phase and Completion phase.
Candidates will be required to provide examples of
evidence for all units and answer a range of questions relating
to the required skills and knowledge for each unit of competency.
Templates will be provided. Please refer to student handbook for
application for RPL.
