The following frequently asked questions are those that we urge prospective students and clients to ask themselves when "shopping around" for a provider of nationally accredited training. Before shopping:

Why do you want to achieve this qualification?

Initial enquiries:
  • Is the provider a Registered Training Organisation?
  • Is the provider registered to offer the qualification you want?
  • Has the organisation been audited against the national standards for quality assurance (AQTF) and found compliant?
  • Is the qualification offered the latest version?
  • What explanation is given to you about the qualification and who needs to have it?
  • What type of introduction to the course is offered?
  • What type of learner’s information pack is provided?
  • What information is provided about career and employment prospects in your chosen field?

Business Practices:
  • When the provider says he/she will get back to you, do they?
  • What feeling do you get when talking to the provider
  • Do you sense their commitment to students? to the qualification? to doing a good job? to the training/education industry?
  • What level of interest does the provider display towards you and your needs?
  • How enthusiastic does the staff seem?
  • Can you see a copy of the organisation’s code of practice?

  • What is the reputation of the provider in the market place?
  • What references or feedback from past students is available?
  • What other testimonials about the course are provided?
  • Have you spoken to people who have done the course with that provider?
  • What does the person think about the quality of the course?

Price:
  • How much is the course?
  • How does this price compare to other providers’ fees?
  • Why is there a difference in price?
  • What is included in the cost of the course?
  • What “other” costs are there?
  • How much are the resources that you will need to buy or supply?
  • Does the course seem to offer you value for money?
  • What do you get for your money?

Our price includes materials, expert and interesting tuition and support after the training. We make sure you know all costs before commiting yourself to the training program.

Duration:
  • How long is the course?
  • How much time is spent face-to-face with the trainer?
  • What are the hours of the course?
  • How much of your own time will you need to devote to the course out of class time?
  • How often are the courses offered?
  • Does it sound as though you will have time to take things in, or do you feel you will be rushed?
  • Do you have time between program sessions to think about what you are learning and to practise?
  • Do you need to do the whole qualification or can you do the units one at a time? or in small clusters (groups)?
Flexibility:
  • Can the course structure be modified to suit your needs?
  • What happens if you miss a class?
  • How can the course content be tailored to suit your experiences and workplace?
  • If circumstances change, can you change from one course to another?

The course program can be modified to suit your needs. Our classes are repeated frequently and you can make up the classes during the next class sessions. Our classes are small and tailored to suit you.

Size & composition of group:
  • How many participants are usually in each program?
  • What is the maximum number of participants?
  • From what “walks of life” do participants come?

Our classes are small – from 4 – 8 participants. Our students come from all “walks of life” including sheep shearers, professionals, ambulance officers, military personnel, High school teachers, farmers, self-employed business owners, dance teachers, beauty therapists.

Delivery:
  • In what way will the course be delivered? for example, face-to-face in a class? self-paced?
  • What resources are supplied?
  • What do you have to buy?
  • What resources does the trainer provide? Are they the trainer’s own resources or have they been purchased ‘off-the-shelf’?
  • How many trainers will you have?
  • How will you be exposed to different training styles?
  • What type of learning activities will you experience eg case studies, role plays, practical, discussions?
  • Will you be able to gain actual workplace experience?
  • Will the content of the course focus on your industry or will the information be very general?
  • What methods will the trainer use to teach you?
  • How much opportunity will you have to interact with the trainer and other students?
  • How much time do you spend practising all the skills?
  • How often will you get to present your skills to a group of clients?
  • If the program is self-paced:­ how much and what type of support will you receive from the trainer?
  • How will you be expected to practise and develop group facilitation skills?
Support:
  • What type of support is offered during the course?
  • Once qualified, what type of mentoring or support is offered to you?
  • If you experience difficulties with the course in any way, what can be done to assist you?
  • If you need help with the content of the course, what extra tuition is available? Will this incur any costs?
  • If you need assistance with the language and literacy aspects of the course, how will the trainer help you?
  • If not working, what type of workplace experience is expected from you?
  • Are workplace visits organised as part of the course?
  • What help are you given, to organise workplace experience?
  • How available and accessible is the trainer or support person during and after hours?
  • What provisions are there for people with a disability?
Assessment
  • How will you be assessed?
  • What are the assessment tasks?
  • When are these to be completed?
  • How much time outside of the class will you need to complete the assessment?
  • How many of the assessments have to be completed in the workplace?
  • How can you have your existing skills recognised?
  • How many attempts at “passing” do you have?
  • What is the process if you do not “pass” the first time?
  • How many people do “pass” the first time?
Experience:
  • Does the trainer have the current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment qualification?
  • What other training/teaching qualifications does the trainer have?
  • What industry experience does the trainer have? Is it broad based or has the trainer been in just one job for years?
  • What professional associations does the trainer belong to?
  • How does the trainer go about improving the quality of his/her own training?
  • What experience does the trainer have of the vocational education and training (VET) sector?
  • How long has the trainer been teaching this course?
Other:
  • What’s the parking like? Can you get to the venue by public transport?
  • What breaks are there during the day?
  • What food is supplied?
  • What is the venue? What’s it like?
