KGVI ERRORS
Page 5
On this
web page, I will remain with the Atlantic & Mediterrain islands
illustrating a few more unlisted flaws in my collection. Unfortunately I don’t have anything
worthwhile from Cyprus & St Helena as the standard of printing was apparently
of higher quality than the other colonies.
Below
are 11 items with 14 scans. With one
exception, to whet the appetite of fellow
All
items with the exception of number 3, were purchased
from approval selections sent to me by dealers and cost about 25-28% of SG
value of the stamp. Only a few Dealers
are interested in errors and flaws and it is relatively easy to find them among
approvals.

Articles
I have read mentioning the 1952 Tristan Da Cunha Overprint set indicate that
there are not many flaws in the overprints of various values in the set. In my opinion this is a neglected area in
KGVI collecting. This particular significant flaw appears to have been
overlooked by the various writers. It is
easily seen with the naked eye. Is it a
constant flaw?.

Falkland Islands Dependencies, 1944 South Georgia O/Prt 1/2d Black &
Green (SG B1) With a broken ‘S’ of South, 9d Black & grey-blue (SG B7) with flaws to the ‘UT’ of South and the ‘A’ of Georgia, and the 1/- Deep blue (SG B8) with the ‘IA’ of Georgia joined.
Here
are three further South Georgia 1944 overprints with noticeable flaws,
especially the broken ‘S’ and the ‘IA’ joined, the latter being where it
appears to be that the ‘I’ and ‘A’ have overlapped rather than actually
joined. What happened during the
overprinting of this set. Was it Friday and they wanted to get away for
the weekend.

Bermuda 1953 Three Power Talks Overprint, 3d purple (SG152) & 1/- blue
(SG153), two blocks/4 with the same broken ‘D’ flaw on both values in
the same position.
I
stepped outside the KGVI area to include this extra item for our

Ascension 1938, 3d Black & grey (SG42a) with a number of short vertical lines above the kings head.
I have not
seen this flaw mentioned before, but I may have missed it in articles I have
read. Do you know whether it is constant
of not. Ascension has a large number of
secondary varieties for the KGVI collector to locate.

Both of these flaws have been mentioned in articles
on the 1938 KGVI set. The ‘curved line’
flaw is listed in SG and both this flaw and the ‘Sky & TES’ re-entry are
included in the CW catalogue. They were
both quite difficult to scan clearly. I
included them for the benefit of our
These two flaws are both constant and the ‘extra

St Kitts-Nevis, KGVI, 1/2d Green (SG68a) with a narrow
break in the top left of the value tablet, the 3d Bright Scarlet (SG73da) with the
listed ‘break in value tablet’ flaw, & the 1950, 1d rose-red (SG86) with the
Tercentenary overprint with damage to the left side of the value tablet.
Here are three interesting flaws. The first two are value tablet flaws on the
small formal stamps, the 1/2d and the 1d.
The third is a scan of a listed flaw, the 3d, SG73da with the ‘break in
the value tablet’. I included this scan
to show that I actually find very popular listed items undetected among dealers
stocks, as well as all the other unlisted flaws.
