Theory on the Formation of Society, Sexuality and the Need for Truth.
1. THE INDIVIDUAL AND THE NEED FOR TRUTH
THEORY ON THE FORMATION OF SOCIETY, SEXUALITY AND THE NEED FOR TRUTH
It should be noted that this is primarily a speculative theory of psychology and philosophy derived from an observation of human nature and unsupervised research. The physiological data supplied are used to demonstrate and confirm, in both a real and an allegorical sense, rather than provide the basis for this theory. I had no legitimate expertise in the physiological sciences when it was originally written, although it was reviewed by experts in the field, and I provided this theory as a framework for specialist scientific investigation in the many fields covered.
1. THE INDIVIDUAL AND THE NEED FOR TRUTH
In looking at the nature of society and its means of formation, it is necessary to have an objective understanding of the nature of the individuals from which a society is formed. Philosophers and theologians have been arguing for thousands of years about the nature of man and from these arguments I have adopted the following position.
A person consists of a soul and a body. The soul is eternal and spiritual in nature i.e. not belonging to the material universe and is created by God at a given instant and it is then infused into or united with the body. The body is a material entity which is dependent on a soul to maintain its existence.
The soul is also called the mind but should not be confused with the conscious mind, as consciousness is only an aspect of the mind. The human mind has three characteristics:
1. Being or Essence
2. Intelligence
3. Will.
These characteristics give the mind a capacity for knowledge and action.
1. Knowledge - As a result of Original Sin and the Fall of Man the mind knows only itself and the body with which it is united, a body that is 'good' in that it is a human body but a body that is in some sense flawed or 'bad' . The mind knowing the body that is flawed knows what is not 'good' and there comes into existence in a state of sin although created good in itself. It also 'knows' the material forms of the universe through changes to the body but not directly. What I propose is that the mind knows the body as a unique energy pattern determined at some level by the physical structure of the body. The structure of each person is different and this determines the pattern of energy, energy which is itself the binding force between the spiritual and the material, the mind and the body. This knowledge is unconscious.
2. People act and they act in accordance with the desire for happiness i.e. they move towards what is good. It is the nature of what is good that is unclear.
If something does not exist it is not true and if people desire existence they must desire that which true. As people move towards or desire what is good and consider existence as the primary good what is good and what is true must be perceived as synonymous.
As I have already said, the mind experiences the body and it is it's first experience of what is or being i.e. truth. Now at the time the mind is united with the body, the body has a quantum amount of being which must either increase or decrease in time. From this the mind must experience that what has less being or more being is directly related to the degree of happiness. A person's will to survive indicates that the mind actually knows that what is i.e. what is true is good. The other option is that what is not true, is good. In either case the mind 'knows' what is good. Man, however, has a will and can move himself towards or away from the truth or good as he experiences it.
The maintenance of the energy pattern, sustained by the physical structure of the body, at its optimum level is initially perceived to be the good. This good, however, has a finite limit and so therefore does happiness. The ability for the mind to know what is true in the material world apart from the body would make it possible for a corresponding increase in happiness to occur. The development of the nervous system has allowed the mind to perceive the nature of the world while still only experiencing its own body. This is possible as each nerve can sustain, by its action potential, an energy field within the field which sustains its own existence. While for individual nerve cells the energy field is only on or off, the development of the cerebral cortex has allowed energy patterns of ever increasing complexity to be experienced, limited only by the nature of particular nervous systems and the environment which they experience.
This capacity to know, whether it be the body itself or the world through the body, is the faculty of intelligence, which Aristotle rightly refers to as intuition. The mind knows and directs the whole body and automatically proceeds towards the greatest good and it is the whole body which is directed by the mind, not only the nervous system e.g. the immune system. All movement is precipitated by external stimuli, however, and it is only through the will that man can act contrary to environmental stimuli and the sensually perceived good. It is through the will that conscious form arises and from consciousness, reason and logic. When a specific energy pattern is maintained in the cerebral cortex, despite an on-going influx of sensory data, an image emerges against the constantly changing background. This is a conscious image and any number of these images can be identified, stored and recalled by the will. The capacity for logic to test what is true, using a priori assumptions made by the intelligence, makes it possible for the mind to perceive eternal truths i.e. truths derived from, but independent of, sensory experience.
The eternal truths or ideas and their clash with what the mind knows as the optimum good for its own body is why a person, having free will, might choose what is evil. This is not to say that the body is evil. In fact it is a prime responsibility or good for people to maintain their bodies at an optimum level, subject to the demands of justice and the generosity of love. The sum of a person's knowledge is known by the intelligence of the mind unconsciously. As what the mind knows is unconscious, it is not possible to determine which of two methods of storing knowledge is true.
1. Everything the mind has known through sensory experience or reason is retained in a spiritual or transcendent body.
2. Everything that the mind has known, is known through the body and all the mind knows at a given time is the body which includes energy patterns, physically stored in the brain through the memory process. This includes knowledge which is consciously inaccessible.
The first indicates total knowledge or retention of all that is experienced and the second only knowledge of that which is physically capable of being stored. In either case the mind perceives a collective body of truth at any given instant. What we think, i.e. propose consciously, is automatically compared to what the mind knows unconsciously to be true. If a proposed action is 'true' then there will be no conflict with what the mind knows to be true. Where there is conflict, uneasiness results as while the will can overrule the mind, the mind naturally inclines to what it believes is good.
Logic is the basis of creativity but creative thought can err as a result of three things.
1. A misinterpretation of the unconscious on the part of the individual.
2. A deceptive experience will provide incorrect a priori assumptions.
3. An incorrect use of logic will reach an incorrect ,conclusion.
The task of society therefore is to educate the conscious minds of people so that all are in harmony with that is true and while it would still be possible to choose evil, it would not be done through ignorance. The most effective method of education is experience and it becomes the responsibility of individuals and society, through a re-shaping of the environment, to ensure that what people experience is true and the law is the primary means of bringing this about. The law, while not curtailing freedom of individual talent, must not just be a reflection of what people want, but rather a reflection of what people need, i.e. the truth and specifically justice. Therefore while individuals may have the right to choose between being a doctor, a plumber, a housewife, etc, they do not have the right to be a rapist or a bank robber.
Laws, therefore, have to be determined and upheld, with punishment being determined by the extent to which breaking a given law departs from the truth and the educating effect of that punishment on the lawbreaker. Laws are to promote love and both lawmakers and those subject to the law have clear cut responsibilities in formulating and keeping laws for the good of all. If a society is to have good laws and a just system of administration, it is necessary that the factors affecting personality and the capacity to perceive what is true be examined, as only laws which accurately reflect the truth will bring happiness.
While people can choose between good and evil, i.e. what is true and what is not true, two people could not make the same choice, even given exactly the same information and being perfectly virtuous. The information from which the mind has to choose is dependent on two factors, the environment and the nature of the body it knows. Identical stimuli from the environment must be recorded differently if registered by different bodies. So, while the environment that is experienced will differ with all individuals, it is still possible to assess the objective facets of personality in relation to truth. Reality is objective in nature and if different bodies experience the same thing differently, someone must be able to know what is true, better than anyone else. The most successful society must be the one that conforms most closely with what is true and while individuals must be responsible for their own subjective acts, there must be some sort of hierarchical structure if justice is to exist. While the reality of good and evil exists, the formal structure for any system must be made with the acceptance that evil can occur in spite of the system. However, it is still necessary that the person with the greatest capacity to perceive what is true, be able to arrive at the position of the greatest authority and the acceptance of authority as a necessary good, must be acknowledged by all members of the society.
As discussed earlier the mind knows the body as an energy pattern which except for the nervous system is relatively unchanging, and it also knows of the material world through changes in the body and the energy pattern. To demonstrate the importance of the effect of the nervous system on personality, independent from other factors, we can use a hypothetical situation.
Take four people, two of whom are identical clones and all of whom are unable to choose anything but what is true. If each were placed in identical situations in time and space and subjected to myriad identical sensory data, there would only be three, not four, conclusions drawn. As the nervous system of each clone undergoes exactly the same change, conclusions drawn by their minds will be identical. The other two people will each draw different conclusions again. Now of these three conclusions, it is necessary that one conclusion be closer in truth than the others, to the totality of truth engendered in all the data to which these people were subjected.
If any formal basis for a hierarchical structure is to be valid, it is necessary to have an understanding of the major factors which contribute to a greater knowledge of the environment, i.e. perception of truth and the resultant happiness.
The four main factors concerned could be labelled as follows:
1. Sensitivity
2. Acumen
3. Intelligence
4. Gender.
1. Sensitivity - This is the level of delicacy inherent in a sensory receptor. The sensitive person is therefore able to experience more subtle forms of stimuli giving a greater awareness of environment. Sensitivity is often confused with acumen which causes a high level of emotional sensitivity.
2. Acumen - The rate of acumen is that rate at which a person can absorb stimuli in a set period of time. For an illustration, take two people subjected to the same 10 stimuli over 1 second. The nervous system of one absorbs three stimuli and the other six. The second, therefore, has a rate of acumen twice that of the first. This could be due to differing action potential in nerve cells or an excess of neurotransmitter which allows the neural circuit to remain switched on for longer periods of time, thereby continually absorbing stimuli.
The rate of acumen is the primary characteristic in the compatibility level of personalities and high levels of acumen are found in those people who have 'charisma'. All people have an 'aura' of energy which is not the mind, but the innate binding energy of the body. People who have charisma are those who have an intense energy field pervading their bodies. This could result from either the high levels of adrenalin which are found in these people as a result of continual stimulation of the nervous system and/or the failure of the action potential of the nervous system to return completely to rest. This inability to return to rest creates a build-up of energy and places the person under a good deal of nervous stress. For 'one person in a hundred' there appears to be a quantum jump in the rate of acumen. It is this group that are the geniuses and brilliant achievers, but it is also the group from which alcoholics, drug-addicts, schizophrenics and hyperactive people belong.
3. Intelligence - While I have stated that intelligence is a faculty of the mind or soul, differences in perceived intelligence are due to the fact that the mind, while knowing the whole body through intelligence, perceives abstract relationships in the world through the cerebral cortex. The greater the number of nerve cells in the cortex, the more abstract the relationships that can be displayed. This ability to perceive the abstract relationship between event A and event B is of enormous importance, as the long process of logic which can perceive the relationship between A and B is unnecessary for someone who knows the relationship. This is something that no amount of learning or endeavour can possibly enhance.
4. Gender - The accepted differences in perception between the sexes is that men are visually and spatially oriented while women are aurally and verbally oriented. The neurological reasons for this are possibly as follows. The hormones estrogen and testosterone are found in the hypothalamus of the brain and have a pronounced but opposite effect on the secretory and electrophysiological functions of the brain as shown in tests on various animals.
Estrogen binding causes retardation of nerve impulses in the medial pre-optic area of the hypothalamus and excitation in the basomedial nucleus area. Testosterone has precisely the opposite effect. This causes an imbalance in the cortical reception of sensory data consistent with the optical signals being stimulated by testosterone and depressed by estrogen. By the same token the signals for temperature and pressure are stimulated by estrogen and suppressed by testosterone. This occurs as the optic nerve passes through the medial pre-optic centre and the nerves from the spinothalamic tract which register temperature and pressure, pass through the baso-medial nucleus of the hypothalamus.
It is also in the baso-medial nucleus area that a so-called pain and pleasure centre is located, which is consistent with temperature control. As discussed earlier, the body has an energy pattern which the mind perceives. Pleasure appears to be the raising of energy within the cells of the body above the optimum level, and as energy is a heat source, the part of the brain which registers temperature also registers pain and pleasure. Excessive energy levels are registered as pleasure; to little or too much energy destroys the physical structure of a cell and is registered as pain. The obvious example of this is the stimulation of the genitals where the blood supply rapidly increases to cope with stimulation of nerves in the area and pleasure is experienced but will become even painful if over stimulated. By common experience we know that what we see does not produce pain or pleasure and therefore, what we see is independent from our subjective experience of the body. The hormonal factor means that a woman's experience of truth is centred on her body and a man's on the external environment. While this is only in a relative sense the differences are real and cannot be overcome by the will. The effect of this is that a man's body must necessarily be under greater stress than that of a woman and a woman will have a lesser capacity to perceive objective truth and make just personal judgments.
In summary the mind experiences material reality in a specific manner according to the nature of the body.
It is necessary that the conscious mind, using what the unconscious mind 'knows' as a basis, proceed to order creation so that what the mind experiences through the senses is true. This is done through reason and logic, made possible by free-will, in the creative process, but it is obvious that not all conscious minds have the same capacity to perceive what is true and men have an obvious advantage in this respect.
The purpose of a society is to provide a greater level of good for the individual as a result of co-operation - good being experience of truth - and thus it is that all societies are formed. The capacity to experience what is true is the actual need of people, if not the perceived need.
The most basic society formed is that between a man and a woman in marriage. This relationship, as with all societies is based on the contribution one can make to the well being of the other and vice versa, and is demonstrative of all societies.
The basic difference in perceptive capabilities between the two need be only in the area of gender, as explained previously. The woman perceives what is true for her body, whereas the man perceives what is true in the world independent of himself - in a relative sense. Therefore the basis of the relationship is not equality of tasks performed, but the woman's capacity for contribution to the bodily well-being of the man, and the man contributing by managing the external environment such -that security and bodily well-being are possible.
This relationship is a microcosm of society and even here there is hierarchy, and there must be a line of authority. This is necessary if the well-being of both members of the society is to be maintained. While both perceive what is true, one must take precedence over the other, the one who perceives most truth. A simple story to demonstrate is as follows:
A man and woman of equal intelligence, acumen and sensitivity are offered a choice of two houses in a country location. The first is a large house, luxuriously appointed and furnished, air-conditioning, swimming pool, etc. The second is a shabby little house with no heating, no floor coverings and situated on a rocky hillside, one mile away from the other. All the information is perceived at an unconscious level and the woman has no hesitation in choosing the first house for obvious reasons. The man, however, for some reason feels through intuition, that is, knows unconsciously, that it is better to have the older house. He cannot understand why but can see that he could certainly make the house quite comfortable with the money they would save in buying this house. They argue, the woman wins out and they take the luxury house. Six months later, however, there is an enormous cloudburst and the house is situated in a natural watercourse and the flood cascades down destroying the house and drowning both people. The man's dominant visual signals had allowed him to perceive the abstract relationship between the various factors in the environment which indicated this, unconsciously, but he had failed to do what he believed rationalising it to be easier to accept the woman's view.
Therefore while the woman's perception that air-conditioning, luxury, etc. are good for the body, is true, it was necessary that she accept the choice of the man if this was in fact going to achieve the object they both desire, i.e. maximum good of the body.
Of the four facets of personality which affect the capacity of the mind to know what is true, it is the hormonal factor which is most decisive in forming an authoritive hierarchy. As both men and women contain estrogen and testosterone in fluctuating levels, the unconscious mind has experienced the effect of each in regard to their effect on the mind and the perception of truth. The higher the level of testosterone, the greater the ability to perceive what is true at the cost of a high level of stress on the body. The higher the level of estrogen, the lower the level of stress on the body, but the lesser the capacity to perceive what is true.
Through pheromonic channels any person is aware at an unconscious level of the relative levels of these sex hormones in others and is therefore aware of what could be called the natural authority of a person. If we were to spread all people and their level of authority over a scale of 1 to 10 we would have women with high levels of estrogen on 1 ranging through the lowest levels at 5 and men with low testosterone at 6 and the highest level at 10. The person with the greatest level of natural authority is at 10.
While the other factors of personality also play a part in hierarchical structure, the hormonal factor is the primary one as it is this which also affects the capacity of the mind to perceive what is just. As justice is the basic right and need of all individuals it would be pointless having a woman in authority, even one with the most superior level of intelligence, a genius as well, but with such a high level of estrogen that in spite of all her endeavours and the best of intentions she could not perceive what was just. It would not only be pointless, but dangerous, as such an intellect would undoubtedly be able to achieve it's desires, but they would not be just and all, including the woman concerned, would be unhappy.
It could be surmised that as the sex hormones play a crucial role in the level of natural authority, sex itself, which is an important part of the family relationship, could play some role in the education of the mind in it's acceptance of authority. The four factors which have been discussed as to the formation of personality are also those concerned with sexuality and it could be expected that complementary personalities would provide complementary sexuality.
In order to determine this, it would be necessary to assess just what it is that the mind actually perceives as the good in sex. Any relationship between sex, the acceptance of authority and the responsibility required of those in authority should then be evident.
As discussed earlier energy and heat are synonymous and the unconscious mind automatically maintains the body at its optimum energy level or good and therefore at a constant temperature. Now via the will or outside influences it is possible to increase the energy level above the optimum level and pleasure is the result. Optimum level of energy is what is true i.e. what is good and pleasure is a state that is not true i.e. not good. The conscious perception of pleasure as a good, is erroneous and pleasure is no more of a good than pain. Conscious knowledge is an extract from all the data the unconscious mind knows. It is to be expected that because of the hormonal bias of the intellect, the female intellect will err, in regard to truth for the body, on the side of pleasure and the male intellect on the side of pain. The genitals also display consistency with this idea with glucose metabolisation being concentrated over the whole genital area from the outer lips of the vagina in the woman to a single column of tissue in the penis of the man. This occurs because the female with a high level of estrogen has her entire genital area enriched with blood vessels and as the estrogen level drops, the suffusion of blood vessels becomes more concentrated around the clitoral region and so on to men where the genital blood supply is richly concentrated virtually completely in the penis .
It is the quest for equilibrium in this matter of pain and pleasure that provides the basis for sexual attraction as sex is the effective means of solution. Intensity of pleasure results from the ease and the constancy with which nerves can be stimulated. Sensitivity affects the strength of stimulation and acumen affects the amount of stimulation required. Orgasm is the release of tension built up in the nervous system from resistance of the wi11 to stimulation .
It should be noted that sex and pleasure are not synonymous in a physiological sense and it is rather the inability of the mind to know perfectly what is true i.e. what is good, that causes pleasure to occur as a side effect to the things that are truly good in sex.
There appears to be three distinct reactions which take place during sex that contribute towards fulfilling the mind's desire for truth. The first of these is the maintenance of the body in good physiological condition. What I propose is, that the mind, consistent with the bias from hormonal influence, causes a polarization of the Sodium (Na+) and Potassium(K+) ions in opposite areas in the male and female. These ions are the basis of nerve conduction in the body. In the male the mind concentrates the body's resources of Na and K ions in the brain allowing the intellect to proceed towards truth at the expense of the peripheral areas which results in stress to the body. In the female the opposite occurs taking the intellect away from truth as greater sensitivity occurs throughout the body, especially the genitals. Nerves from the clitoris lead to the walls of the vagina and as these nerves are open ended it is to be expected, and indeed is the case, that the vaginal mucus which seeps through the walls of the vagina has a high level of Na and K ions. During intercourse the excess of ions causing over-sensitivity in the female genitals has been shed into the vaginal mucus where they are readily absorbed through the skin of the penis, redressing the shortage in peripheral areas of the male.
The second factor to be considered is as follows. In a woman the need is truth and it is met by the deposit of sperm inside her vagina. Her mind perceives the sperm not as an antigen but as of the body i.e. an increase in being, and does not reject it accordingly. Presumably the mind perceives it as a completion of the egg and thus her own body.
The sperm provides degree of truth not predominantly by quantity however, but by quality. This quality would appear to be dependent on the factors which make up the intellect. In this case the most important of these is the level of testosterone and it is this which provides the level of 'satisfaction' from sex. Probably, it is the overall capacity of the sperm donor to perceive truth that is experienced by the woman through the sperm.
The man, however, has not the same need to experience truth as the woman, but has a need to know his body and thus be able to decrease the stress in his body. This need is met by his partner during intercourse. Stimulation of the woman's genitals causes the vagina to secrete a fluid that has a high concentration of estrogen. The very fine skin on the glans of the penis allows estrogen to be absorbed into the bloodstream and the man's mind comes into greater focus on his body and is able to dissipate any stress.
From this develops a mutual dependency. As well a trust in authority on the part of the women is easily facilitated as the man gives her what her unconscious mind desires in truth and at the same time makes her aware of his superior capacity to perceive truth. At the same time the man although having authority and power becomes equally dependent and thus responsible towards the woman as she is providing relief from stress and care for his body.
From this comes the acceptance of the hierarchical nature of the most basic of societies and each is happy trusting and relying on the other, one being authoritive and the other supportive to the mutual benefit of both.
Sex has become the essential educative and unitive factor in this society with regard to authority. It also results in the procreation of children who then witness the trust and responsibility of the authoritive structure and the mutual benefit it brings to all participants and the lesson is passed on.
The third factor is necessary in order to ensure that this relationship is successfully maintained and there is a naturally binding process which takes place. While men and women have free-will it is possible to break this psychological bond, but to do this is detrimental, as it is a rejection of truth, i.e. an evil. This process of bonding is possibly caused by the secretions from the accessory glands, that is the Bartholin's' glands in the female, and the Cowpers' and Littres' glands in the male. The level of secretion is fixed in a definite relation to the level of estrogens in females and androgens in males and these secretions have components which can identify individuals as distinctly as a fingerprint.
The secretions from these glands, which are found in the vestibule of the vagina and the urethra in the penis, apart from being identifiers, have characteristics which appear to make them desirable in themselves. These secretions have high osmotic capabilities which could enable the high level of proteolytic and enzyme compounds to be absorbed through the skin. These compounds are then identified as belonging to the individual who absorbs them, as well as the one who secretes them. Therefore if a man and a woman have intercourse, secretions from these glands are absorbed by each other and the unconscious perception is ownership of the other person.
As the levels of these secretions is paralleled with the level of testosterone and estrogen, 'sexual' bonding is strongest between those with high estrogen and high testosterone. Sex is a natural binding act as a result of this and it is therefore necessary that this is the final step in the cementing of a relationship because the other factors contributing to personality need to be complementary as well. As complementary personalities reflect complementary sexuality it is unnecessary for any sexual experimentation in order to find a compatible partner. All factors of the personality need to be complementary, if not identical, in order to have the best and most stable relationship in a marriage. But I would now like to examine the factor which is most effective in determining the marriage relationship, the hormonal factor.
To understand this effect, it is necessary to create a model. Range people over a scale of 1 to 10 according to the levels of hormone with the highest levels of estrogen at 1 and highest levels of testosterone at 10 with women running through 1-5 and men 6-10. Now on the hormonal basis of complementary sexuality, the most suitable relationships must add to the number 11. That is the person with the highest level of estrogen at 1 would be married to the person with the highest level of testosterone at 10 and so on, 2 with 9, 3 with 8, etc.
While this is only an illustrative model it makes two things clear. Firstly, while 1 and 10 each have a great need for the benefits of sex, 6 and 5 while complementing each other, would find that sex was not nearly as essential or benefitable to them and their level of mutual dependence would be necessarily lower. Secondly, a relationship between 1 and 6 for example, will be unstable on the basis of sexuality, as they will not be capable of filling each other's needs.
The sex attractants which appear to bring about reproductive behaviour are directly linked to the level of estrogen and testosterone. In the male it is the musky odour produced in the sebaceous apocrine glands and in the female it is mainly an odour produced by bacterial action on the secretions from the squamous cells of the vaginal walls producing. The higher the level of testosterone the more dominant the male is and olfactory awareness of another male more dominant than her partner can, in fact, bring about termination of a woman's pregnancy in the early hours. The thickness of the cell layer of the vaginal wall is directly related to the level of estrogen and the higher the level of estrogen the more sexually attractive a woman becomes.
Now any aspect of sexuality which threatens this mutual dependence and the stability of the relationship is not only a threat to the individual but as a result of the educative influence it is also a threat to the concept of authority and society as a whole. As it is administratively impossible to punish a majority of the population who break the law because they have lost faith in the authority of the state, a breakdown of society is inevitable. It becomes necessary to determine which aspects of sexuality are detrimental to the maintenance of the emotional bond itself and any others which prevent or hinder the correct selection of a partner.
The extent of the perceived good in sex, is so great, that the emotional dependence of the partners on each other is very high but as people have free-will it is still possible to reject the trust of the other partner. This withdrawal of the good creates emotional pain of a high level in the opposite partner and is therefore in itself an evil act. The bond developed by sex between two people must therefore be permanently maintained if no damage is to be caused to either party. The ideal situation is for men and women to meet and, over a period of time, ascertain the complementary nature of their personalities. Having met someone who is complementary they should decide whether marriage is warranted. Only then should sex come in to the relationship as a final unifying bond. Those who are complementary but do not wish to get married (e.g. a 6 and 5 from illustration used previously) would remain single as friends. Abstinence from sex would be required and as the actual benefits from sex would be relatively minimal for these personalities, this situation would be acceptable and would not require a great sacrifice. Marriage, therefore, should be a permanent institution with both participants being virgins at the time of marriage and sexual relations being confined only to marriage.
Factors of sexuality which prevent this from occurring naturally are perceived at an unconscious level and can be summarized as follows:
A. Masturbation
This is the pure pursuit of pleasure with no benefit to anyone including self as it is a turning away from truth This results in resentment towards self, as by denying truth, it is experienced as an evil caused by the will. The gravity of the offence is naturally greater in men as their natural disposition is more away from pleasure. As an initial sexual experience which seems good, but is a rejection of the good, it will usually propel a person into a relationship concerning intercourse. As a result of masturbation, sex has become a distorting factor in choosing a partner and if all factors of the personality are not taken into account, the wrong partner is chosen and inevitably the relationship breaks up causing the emotional bond which results from intercourse to be broken.
B. Virginity
The first sexual relationship involving the deposit; of sperm in the vagina or the absorption of estrogen, produces, as a result of the experience, a trust and dependence. This relationship is with a person having a personality which is identified to the unconscious mind of the partner by the secretions from the accessory glands. If the bond, that is created by these secretions, is broken, the mind is aware of the type of personality which caused the withdrawal of what is good, i.e. inflicted evil. As the unconscious mind can perceive the level of estrogen or testosterone in people via means of pheromones, as soon as a second sexual partner is found the mind has a basis for comparison and can determine the relationship between the level of hormone and the desired sexual good. This however, does not allow the mind to assess sexuality in relation to its total needs and results in a conflict of choice between overall suitability and a perception of sexual inferiority Also those who have the most need of sex i.e. those in the 1 and 1O categories suffer greater damage from a breaking of this bond and will be more afraid of being hurt again. While the 1 has need of the 10 and vice-versa each is also aware that this partner could also cause the greatest evil and while they each have a great need sex they will often compromise and opt for a 5 or 6 for example. The 5 and 6 who have also experienced a break up will be willing to opt for the best sexual good as they do not have a great emotional dependence on sex. The personalities of 10 and 5 and 1 and 6 however, are not complementary and it is highly likely that they will also break up causing the damage to occur again. It should also be noted that a breaking of the initial bond will mean that perfect trust will not be possible again, as the mind's automatic sense of ownership resulting from the secretions of the accessory glands proved to be wrong. This means that future relationships will never be completely harmonious even if perfectly complementary partners were to be found. This incomplete trust will be further highlighted by the unconscious attraction that will occur towards a person with a higher level of hormone than the partner, resulting in jealousy.
C. Oral and Anal Sex
The true value of sex is found in the experience ol the sperm and the absorption of estrogen. Anal Sex which does not have these in conjunction with pleasure is a move away from truth and mutual dependence and must be considered a perversion. Oral sex takes place because of the attraction of the secretions produced by the accessory glands. Only one partner absorbs the secretions and has a real benefit while causing pleasure which is resented by the other in an unconscious sense and selfishness and disharmony is the only result. Oral and anal sex therefore must be considered invalid as productive sexual acts and as evils which are unconsciously resented by the partner.
D. Adultery
The emotional bond of ownership that is crucial to a family relationship is still maintained although not perfectly by non-virgins. This is because the mind knows only one source of having its needs met and is dependent accordingly. With adultery the mind experiences the capability to be independent of the partner. This occurs when one of the partners has sex with someone else and then comes back and has sex with the partner. The bond is then broken and while both sources of fulfilment are available, dependence on neither is possible. Because the mind of a woman perceives sperm as a completion of herself, a woman cannot return to sex with a previous partner, as this causes unconscious revulsion.
E. Menstruation
As the taboos in regard to sexual activity result from a real experience of the mind, it would be naive to think that this did not also apply in the case of intercourse during menstruation. Any antigens experienced by the man having sex during menses, would result in a rejection of sex as a good which is untrue. It is also likely that any infections present in the blood of a woman, even though suppressed by the immune system, could be passed on through intercourse as the man's immune system would be unprepared to counter the infection.
F. Homosexuality
The attraction of sex and the resultant formation of a mini society is based on a mutual dependence as a result of needs which can only be filled by the other partner. In homosexual relationships this mutual contribution on a sexual level is not possible as both individuals have the same needs. Because they are the same although at differing levels, this inability to fulfil needs leads to resentment not dependence, especially in the light of the mind's relationship to pleasure. The bond of ownership created by the absorption of secretions from the accessory glands still exists but the mind is now confused as it owns something which is taking it away from the good.
Homosexuality in men is an even greater perversion than that of women. While the female mind perceives sperm as a completion of its own body, a male mind rejects sperm as an 'antigen'! This causes a constant bombardment of the immune system and the mind perceives this act of intercourse between men as a direct attack on the body making resentment as opposed to love the only possible consequence.
In summary, then, it must be seen that there is only one valid form of sexuality as regards individual well-being. Any departure from this orthodoxy inevitably results in unhappiness for the individual, fractured relationships and the decay of the state as the educative influence of sex will then bring about the reject-ion of authority.
There are two things to be considered when dealing with the question of abortion. These are, the effect on the individual and the effect on the state, both now and in the future. The second of these I will discuss in the section on eugenics and will now discuss the relationship between the individual and abortion. What must be clarified, is the time of ensoulment i.e. when the body and the mind are united. While this could occur at any time from conception to birth, it seems that conception or birth are the most realistic possibilities. The viewing of an ultrasound film during an abortion shows the foetus frantically trying to avoid the suction tool which is destroying it. Anyone who has seen such a film is left with no doubt that the foetus is alive and informed by a mind, presumably from conception. However, it should be noted that if the foetus was informed by the mind of the mother until birth, it would react in exactly the same way.
It therefore becomes necessary to assess the effect of abortions on the individual in the light of both possibilities. If the foetus has its own mind or soul from the time of conception the degree of maturity of the body is irrelevant as it only provides knowledge to the mind, however limited and the child is with even only one cell a complete human being. At this stage the person may be unable to act in a sense, but as it now has knowledge it can choose between good and evil, i.e. what is true and what is not true. In this case abortion is the destruction of a complete human being and must be considered as the violent death of an individual.
If the foetus is informed by the mind of the mother the damage caused by abortion would be of enormous extent in a psychological sense as it would be the closest one could come to experiencing a violent death. An example of the unconscious effect this could have is the fear a woman would have of a man who had punched and broken her nose. Every time she sees this man or something which makes her re-associate, the fear and the pain are real. This unconscious fear and pain would undoubtedly be far greater in a woman who had undergone an abortion.
In either case abortion cannot possibly be considered valid as it is either the killing of a complete person or an enormous injury to the mother of the child, and the mother has no more right to abortion than she has to suicide. The true relationship between mind and the foetus must be determined not because it can justify abortion but rather to see where the injury that takes place occurs.
In the light of this theory regarding the relationship between mind and body. I put forward the following evidence which supports the second of these possibilities.
As I have suggested the mind of a woman knows and accepts the sperm of her partner as a completion of her own body because no immune reaction occurs and conception can take place. At conception, the genetic units of sperm and egg which were accepted by the mind of the mother are united, but remain the same, and once again there is no immune reaction. Although the foetus is a unique and separate entity the genetic basis does not change from the original disparate egg and sperm cell and there is no immune reaction. . Also the nutritional needs of the mother and the foetus are balanced and one does not dominate the other suggesting they are both ordered by the one source, the mind of the mother. While this relationship between the mind and the body may seem to deny the idea of the unity of the mind and body, the capacity for doctors to perform heart and organ transplants is indicative of the real relationship between soul and body.
The man who has had a heart transplant certainly does not have two souls, even though the knowledge he now possesses has changed with the nature of the new heart. From Sacred Scripture there is an extract from Exodus 21:22,23 which I will quote to support this concept.
"If some men are fighting and hurt a pregnant woman so that she loses her child, but is not injured in any other way, the one who hurt her is to be fined whatever amount the woman's husband demands, subject to the approval of the judges."
This passage of Scripture seems to indicate that the injury to the foetus is in fact an injury to the mother, which could only be the case if the foetus was informed by the soul or mind of the mother.
So far this theory has been primarily concerned with the effect of various actions on the individual. The well-being of the individual is of primary importance and a necessity if a society is to flourish.
All individuals have a right to experience what is true and thus be happy. They also have the right to choose between good and evil. This does not mean they have the right to do evil but the right to choose to do evil. The government of the day has the right therefore to punish those who choose to do evil and the protection of the individual is particularly necessary in the area of sexuality.
The orthodox sexuality that I have described also has a built-in system of eugenics. The more aesthetic and harmonic society requires not similar but different members to be integrated successfully. Those factors of personality which give a greater knowledge of and capacity to deal with creation are obviously desirable. The level of sexual attraction, the level of fertility along with the level of intellectual interest in looking after a family is such that if the complementary partnerships I have described take place, the natural system of eugenics will ensure that the members of society become more diverse and yet harmonised to create a perfect unit.
This includes an increase in the overall level of intelligence, rate of acumen and a greater diversity in the level of hormone types. What prevents this, apart from promiscuity, is contraception.
Contraception means that individuals in choosing what they want to do in a conscious sense, have disrupted the natural system of distribution of children with particular personality types. This is in addition to the fact that most contraceptives interfere with the well-being of the individual as regards to sex. The contraceptive which does the most damage in this respect is the Pill.
The Pill while being a contraceptive agent is also a high dose of sex hormones. This injection of sex hormones must necessarily distort the natural personality of a woman making it difficult to find a complementary partner. This is further complicated by the way in which the Pill reduces the sex attractants of the vagina. These attractants act on a man in an unconscious sense making him aware of the relative levels of estrogen in women. The pill takes these away and on top of distorting the personality of the woman makes the finding of a complementary partner virtually an impossibility.
All contraception including abortion breaks up the natural system of eugenics and creates an amorphous singularity of personalities which cannot be harmonised into a successful complex society. It should be noted that the eugenic system caters to the bodies of individuals and the natural talents they confer. People's intrinsic value and worth is in their capacity to choose between what is true or not true, i.e. good or evil, and the talent of an individual is of no importance in regard to this value. All people, whether deformed, old or young must be considered of fundamental importance in themselves but if the natural balance of a society is to be maintained, this natural system of eugenics must be allowed to work.
While the talent of individuals is not important to their level of virtue or happiness, an advancing society requires greater numbers of individuals with higher levels of testosterone and estrogen. This comes about through a number of means such as:
1. Strength of sex attraction and pair bonding.
2. Motility of sperm increases with level of testosterone and cervical mucus is more easily penetrated in women with high estrogen levels.
3. Presence of a dominant male (high testosterone), noted by olfactory means in female, will cause abortion of ovum fertilized by less dominant male in the early hours after fertilization.
Nature clearly indicates her preference for hormonal diversity and anything which prohibits this should be prevented.
My understanding of Christianity is that the soul of mind, as a result of Baptism, knows not only itself and the body, but God. As God does not infringe on the capacity of man to be creative this does not provide man with a direct knowledge of material reality. God, however is Absolute Truth and the effect on the mind can be explained as follows:
In all of this, however, God does not rake away our free will and the mind can accept or reject the Truth, whether it personal direction from Christ of or the Essence of Truth which is the Father i.e. assent or dissent from the voice of Conscience or as described in Biblical terms fear of the Lord.
It is therefore logical to conclude that only legitimately baptised Christians have an equal potential for happiness in this life. For those not baptised it is only the size of the intellect and the nature of the environment which enables the mind to perceive wisdom or truth in greater or lesser degrees. In this sense, it is, as Aristotle remarked, only those few with the capacity for intellectual contemplation, the philosophers, who can reach the greatest degree of happiness.
Christianity has made infinite happiness possible for all, despite the level of their intellect, and indeed Christ makes this clear when he speaks of the greatest of little children. This is because the little child automatically does what the unconscious mind knows to be true, whereas when people mature, intellectual concepts and choices can be and may be made in contradiction to what the unconscious mind or heart knows is true i.e. not have fear of God rejecting truth and happiness.
NB: These comment are made in good faith from a psychological perspective and while not having the authority of the Church, have been made in the belief that they are consistent with Church teaching.
This theory is only a brief outline or guide using simplified concepts and generalizations, yet a number of things have been demonstrated.
1. The temporal happiness of the individual is increased in society as this allows a greater diversity of experience. Individuals are the building blocks of society and smaller societies are the building blocks of larger ones. The more universal the society, the more happy the individual participants will be. It is not possible, however, to proceed straight from the individual to a universal society.
2. Sexuality must be confined to a permanent lifelong partnership where particular norms of behaviour must be adhered to. Any actions which threaten this position of sexual orthodoxy must be perceived not only as a threat to the individual but as responsible for the destruction of the state as well. Adultery and homosexuality must therefore be considered as very serious offences against the individual and the state.
3. The roles of men and women in society are not interchangeable. Women's roles are supportive and men's authoritive. Any formal structure, while not precluding free choice, must be made in this light. It should also be acknowledged that neither role is more important than the other as society cannot function without both.
In summary, then, it must be stated that a government not only has the authority and the right, but the obligation, to legislate for and strive to uphold the position of the family. While compassion and freedom of the individual are of primary importance there are objective factors involved in sexuality which make certain actions clearly evil in themselves. The extent to which these offences are punishable is a matter for deep consideration, but there can be no situation where governments should give tacit approval by providing financial support to or ignoring those who seek to pervert the innocent. It is necessary that society acknowledge that while people may choose to do evil, believing it is good, their choosing so does not automatically make the act good in itself.
Individuals and their desire for virtue especially in relation to authority, whether exercising or accepting it are therefore responsible for the rise or fall of any society in which they exist.
