Light
Light, in scientific viewpoint, is an electromagnetic wave that travels in a vacuum at absolute speed, literally ‘stepping-out’ space. Here, we will also take it as having another side, wherein it links, through its mathematical nature, to our knowing mind. In this latter respect, light is also seen as a moment in a universal consciousness, a stepping-stone between it and our knowledge of the material world.
Science’s contribution, describing its electromagnetic nature, depicts its objectivity. Its other side, that of mind, is then its subjectivity. Our task is to map the two sides to each other, bringing into view the composite entity that in the context of our knowledge alone describes its actuality.
We have already made a start on this in our mathematical analysis of the physiology of mind,[i] wherein objectivity maps to clockwise, and subjectivity to anticlockwise in the infinity of circles that express the brain's working mechanism. Subjectivity and objectivity are respectively the sides of knowing and the known. Our task is to extend this relation between knowing and known to the generality of light, as this has presented itself to the human consciousness across the ages.
Until science came on the scene, light was but the luminescence of sun star moon and fire, sources that we associated variously with warmth and sight. Enfolding science’s detailed electromagnetic depiction into this larger picture expands and changes our knowledge of the whole, including that of our selves as conscious beings within it.
Looking ahead we can say that light, in its broadest sense will prove to be the font from which all else evolves, the stem of consciousness, on one side knower and known, on the other the shapes taken by matter. In this respect our modern knowledge of light's nature will prove to be but a refinement and development of ancient knowledge.

Science will broaden and fructify that ancient knowledge, leaving it behind as stepping stones to higher forms, but then another threshold will be reached wherein science too will be enfolded in a higher level, for scientific analysis applies to measurable parameters downstream from mind. To understand matter itself we have to return to philosophy, which although subordinated for a time remains forever as the higher category and agent of mind that sustains the whole.
For instance, we are material creatures but also intelligent, and matter as such does not explain intelligence. We are bound therefore to seek its precursor in the preexisting whole. Following the ancient prescription we will find it in Light, which the ancients capitalized, seeing in it more than simple illumination; for them it was the luminous presence of God.
Developing
the Path
Historically light has presented as an electromagnetic wave that incongruously has a particulate nature. Far from resolving the conundrum research has persistently affirmed the duality, leaving us nonplused, face to face with the incomprehensible. We have no option but to accept the fact of our incomprehension, questioning this instead.
Our task in this will be to cross the bridge from physics to philosophy, uniting the sides in the process of repairing our understanding. It will mean equating the physical description, the electromagnetic moment, to a knower known relation. Mind, as the physiology of the brain will then come forward as an entity in its own right, on the road to a theory of everything, for it will require that we take mathematics back to its in-mind precursor; and then perform the similar task for physics.
We have reached the point where, having seen that the circle, as distinct from the infinite straight is the pattern upon which the mind builds, we can also see that identical number strings in the circles correspond to knower and known according to the direction in which they are read.[ii] We also know that circular motion transcribed onto a moving background creates waveforms. We can therefore transpose our analysis of the knower known relation developed in the circles into the waveform milieu, into our sense of the nature and function of light itself within the field of consciousness.
The first such relation that came to our attention was that which sustains the brain’s function, linking knowledge to materiality. We should find a matching pattern in the organization of light itself. Many paths open out, all of which, including that presented in figure 1 below, can only be speculative at this stage.

The known, a line of ascending numbers 0 to 5, to [1]0 in another circle, is picked out in red. The knower, a line of descending numbers, 0 back to 5, and down to 0 in another circle, is picked out in green. The cohesion in the circle between knower and known is maintained, but not as a static fact, for it opens out into the universe-spanning dimensions of the matter/ light duality and difference.
The couplets preserve, and more than this, illustrate light’s otherwise enigmatic wave particle duality, its particulate form superimposed upon its continuity.
Imaginatively building upon the new vision of reality that seems to be emerging, we can postulate the stationary magnetic component as representing the known world, and the electrical as representing the light-speed process of knowing. Space would not be empty in this scenario, but as light-filled, the magnetic presence of all determination. Stationary would not mean still, but gravity as the carrier of material existence, incapable of taking motion, incapable that is, of definition other than by inference from the behavior of elements of another order determined within it.
We are no longer tracing knower and known within circles, as we were in the physiology of mind, but in the constitution of waves. When read into the waveform, the circles map sequentially, not only to what is seen but also to the act of seeing, thereby defining subjectivity and objectivity as moments in consciousness. Nor are we the knower in this viewpoint, for knowing has jumped ship and become objective. Electromagnetism and our sensibility join to create a picture of the mind's process in understanding.
This sets electromagnetism in place as the foundation upon which consciousness rests, not our consciousness, but that of light, disembodied as far as we can tell, except as it belongs to the whole. We are then conscious insofar as we partake of the whole. We are not, as conscious, somehow ‘above’ the inanimate world of being, as if stars are but celestial fire and our earth a thing of rock, for the whole is mind above plurality.

Returning to Figure 1, like links to like, 0 to 0 and 5 to 5. The diagram is telling us something. We construct diagrams to express our view. These, constrained by the rigor of their numerical and geometrical background, restrict and guide the result.
Applying the finding to odd circles (Figure 2), we can see that if 0 joins to 0 a straight line cannot result. The like-to-like sequence isolates the couplets in the odd bases. The infinite patterns of complexity that result belong to expression. The whole of number thus covers the whole of expression, within which determinable features arise.
Taking all bases together as the foundation of thought,[iii] the odd/ even difference disrupts the simple pattern. In doing so it adds something to it, namely the mechanism particle physics needs to explain the duality of light's particle/ wave nature, as this emerges in Young's double-slit experiment. It takes this back to the odd/ even sequence inherent in the counting line. Integrated in light's process, photon and wave no longer contradict. The wave correlates to even, the photon to odd. They are not allocated, so to speak, to different planets.

Figure 2 shows a pair of odd circles, attached but uncoupled with any other. The ‘3456’ edge of a ‘ghost’ couple shown on the right is entered only to make the point that devoid of ‘like to like’ attachment the knower known couplets drift apart.[iv] The odd circles cannot draw straight lines! Their destiny is to collapse.[v] In doing so they contribute to, indeed initiate the great diversity we experience in the world around.
The features delineated in the above 9 and 10 circle diagrams are to be read uniformly into the odd/ even sequence in every base to infinity. The significance that appears in the whole then gives meaning to the detail, in the context of mathematical form.
‘ATOM, A Theory of Mind’, describes thought in general terms. To tame the complicated mathematics performed with circles instead of numbers we have to adopt conventions. Our ascending counting line advances, not one unit but one base at a time. Instead of 0 1 2 3… we have 0, base 1,[vi] base 2, base 3 etc. Each unit, as a circle, is not a symbol for a fixed amount, but a mathematical system in its own right. We draw the 0 at the top of the circle, number clockwise, and importantly develop a form of logical negativity (NOTS) peculiar to circles. This effects the jump from mathematics to thought.[vii]
In terms of frequency electromagnetic radiation spans the entire spectrum of number. The difference is that we are now taking light as the being and carrier, not only of energy, but of consciousness, the font of all intelligence and knowing.
Figure 1 shows couplets held together through 0 ½ 1 spin components. It also suggests an explanation for the dual nature built into particle physics, which is logical if predicated of mathematical entities, but not if ascribed to a suborder of indivisible ‘things’. Ironically, particle physic's ‘particles’ are compulsively pair-divided! In them we are not looking at a facet of the material world, but a feature of mind, albeit in objective focus. The entire subject rests upon mathematical (mind-like) criteria. How can we fail to see that our object is, in fact, objective mind?
Spin here acquires a reference in the anticlockwise clockwise direction that determines the knower known difference, and particle physics finds its subject categorization as the mind's analysis of its own process, itself made objective to itself. It is the Grecian motto, ‘know yourself’ brought to full maturity.
With the links occurring through the circle zero (which doubles as ten), and the 5, or 10/2 antipodal number in even circles (being ½ of 1 circle turn), our problem is not that of finding associations but an embarrass de richesses, as if, being a sculptor and given a block we could carve any shape we wanted. The block is mathematics, and the shape we seek is the nature of mind. Science must revamp its approach, not retreating from the challenge but facing it directly, explaining its actuality and revealing its own math-based nature in the process. It has no warranty to cut itself off from the life and mind that supports and sustains the whole.
Number circles open out upon thought, just as number opens out upon mathematics. In mathematics number goes beyond its simple expression, and in thought the circles go beyond their simple mathematical form. The idea that light (from radio to gamma waves), not only illuminates the world in our knowledge and understanding, but is itself the very model of this, in that as prefigured in religion it maps to the presence of an infinite and ubiquitous intelligence, seems to be right, not only in terms of its complex detail, but in its simplicity as well.
Our essay has done what it proposed, found a source for our intelligence in a preexisting whole, something in which we participate, in step with our experience of mass. In neither case, mass on the one hand, nor mind on the other are we our own invention. Light is electromagnetism, but more than that, it is the carrier wave of our conscious being.
