YAGNI

My real home (Turrif)

YAGNI - You Arent Going to Need It.  Sounds arrogant?  Yes, but the intent is "Good idea, but we do not need it right now and we are probably better waiting until we do need it", but hey hard to make an acronym out of that.

It is often not what you do that improves quality but what you do not do.  Even if you do need to do it later, you will have better focus when there is a real need and in the meantime you have delivered more sooner.

YAGNI is one important value that helps meet the Agile Manifesto principle:

Simplicity ... the art of maximizing the amount of work not done ... is essential

In the drive to get "the best architecture" as "it may be needed" often is just a waste of time.  Fun, but not what we are paid for.

Alan Kay said "The best way to predict the future is to invent it."   YAGNI tells us "The best way to predict the future is to wait until it happens."
