SECTION 5 – Important Information For Interested Organisations

How can organisations with potential mentors get involved in the Opening Doors – Engaging Melbourne’s Skilled Migrants program?

Skilled migrants entering Australia represent a wide range of professions including teachers, health practitioners (nurses, doctors, pharmacists), specialists in law and engineering. We are interested in any organisations, small or large, who see value in the program, understand their role in terms of supporting the mentor and the mentee and have staff willing to commit to being a mentor.

We also would welcome and strongly encourage any organisation willing to offer work experience to any mentees who participate in the program work experience - whether it is for a couple of days or attendance and sponsorship to a specific event (e.g. an afternoon workshop), or whether it comprises a longer term placement. Local experience is fundamental for newly arrived skilled migrants to secure permanent employment as it gives them Australian work experience and a local reference – and thus credibility when applying for other work.
