• aim of program including clear guidelines about roles and responsibilities of the mentee
• training and support throughout the period of mentoring and how feedback will be sought from mentors on the program’s success from their individual perspectives
• cross cultural training for mentees, outlining some general issues about the Australian workplace, similarities and differences, communication tips etc.
The mentees will be expected to:
• commit to the principles and practical requirements of the program
• attend all agreed meetings with the mentor at their workplace unless agreed upon and give the mentor sufficient warning, where possible, should any change to the program occur
• understand that the mentor cannot be asked to resolve all settlement or personal issues that arise nor should they be asked to intervene in any such matters unless agreed by the mentor
• alert the ‘Opening Doors’ program of any potential issues or concerns as soon as possible
• understand that this is a mutually beneficial volunteer program and that there might be a small amount of out of pocket expenses to cover a cup of coffee and travel to the mentor's place of work (for example) (any other major expenses should be covered by the program or the mentor’s organisation).
