EAW Editing Notes . These notes are the result of a lot of detective work, trial and error, and guesswork, by me and a great number of other EAW fans. They have been collated by me since 1999, originally for my own use. They are a synthesis of everyone’s knowledge of EAW that has been shared to date, and are intended as a freely available reference work for anyone interested in editing EAW.

EAW Campaign Editor Version 1.0 (EAW Pilot) . This is a stand-alone squadron and pilot editing program for EAW campaigns, which was released in June 1999. You can re-equip your squadron with any other flyable aircraft, and change your airfield to any other in the EAW world. The number of aircraft available to your squadron can also be changed. The date can be changed to any year and month between January 1940 and December 1950 (EAW does not accept 1939 as a valid year, for some reason). The name and rank of each pilot in your squadron, and the squadon name itself, can be changed to whatever you want, as can the fatigue and morale levels, and the sorties and kills recorded. EAW Pilot is now included in ECA Control Panel, but is useful as a separate program if you are using a campaign created by someone else (because ECA Control Panel overwrites the campaign files when it is opened). Download EAW Pilot (245 Kb) here .

Enemy Coast Ahead (ECA) v1.4 . This substantial add-on for EAW was released in October 1999. It enables you to fly seven previously non-flyable aircraft in EAW campaigns, the De Havilland Mosquito VI, Martin B26B Marauder, Messercchmitt Me-410 Hornisse, Junkers Ju-88A, Junkers Ju-88C, Junkers Ju-87B Stuka and Heinkel He-111 H. This is a very large add-on (approximately 7.6 Mb) which is too large to store on this website. It is available from the CombatSim EAW archive here or from Cord's EAW Site under Utilities/Add-ons here .

Paulo's Utilities . Paulo Morais' utility, CDFRW.EXE, for extracting individual files from the EAW *.CDF libraries is indispensable for any EAW editor. DUMPSTR.EXE and BUILDSTR.EXE turn EAW text string (*.STR) files into plain text for editing, and back into *.STR files for use in EAW. 3DZ_MAP.EXE generates a standard 3D *.DXF wireframe file of EAW 3DZ files, which can be viewed in any 3D viewer or CAD program, and is very useful for editing 3DZ files. Also includes Paulo's new 3DZ Scaler program, for scaling any EAW 3DZ file up or down. Download Paulo's Utilities (81 Kb)  here.

Alessandro's Converter v1.5. Alessandro Borges' utility program, which converts EAW 3D shape files into plain text files and back again, for easy editing. A must-have for any editing of EAW 3D shapes. Download the Converter (87 Kb)  here.

Picpac. The Microprose program for converting *.PCX files into the *.TPC files used by EAW. Essential for creating or changing aircraft skins. Note that this zip file contains only the PICPAC.EXE file and its explanatory text file. The full PICPAC download (some 5 Mb in size), with all the EAW *.PCX files enclosed, can be downloaded from the Microprose website. Download Picpac (29 Kb)  here.

TPC to PCX Converter. Gpmwapl's new utility, which converts any EAW *.TPC file into its *.PCX file, for re-painting. The reverse of PICPAC, it is very useful for extracting a PCX file from a non-standard *.TPC file. Download the TPC to PCX Converter here .

Woolfman's Vector v1.2 . A very useful little program for calculating the normal vector of polygons in EAW *.3DZ files. Saves manual calculation, when fixing "disappearing" polygons in new EAW aircraft shapes. Download Vector 1.2 (6 Kb) here.

Woolfman's Vector v2. Woolfman's latest (Oct 2002) program for re-calculating all of the normal vectors of polygons in EAW *.3DZ files in one operation, and for outputting the result in TXT format. Saves a lot of manual calculation, when fixing "disappearing" polygons in new EAW aircraft shapes. Download Vector 2 (13 Kb) here.

Jeroen's EAW AircraftEdit. Jeroen van Soest's program EAW AircraftEdit is an easy-to-use editor for EAW which allows you to edit the flight stability, engine data, flight controls and gun data for any EAW aircraft. If hex-editing is not your style, this is the utility you need. Get it from Jeroen's site at http://www.gironet.nl/home/lvsoest/ under the "European Air War" tab.
