Choosing a school for your child who has a disability?

If you are visiting a school here are a few questions to consider

  • Do you feel welcome at the school?
  • Do you feel your child will be welcomed at the school?
  • Where are your child’s siblings and friends going?
  • Where does your child want to go?
  • Will you be able to assist your child to develop friendships and networks outside the school environment?
  • What strategies need to be in place to achieve successful inclusion for your child?
  • Does the school recognise your child as a valued member of the school community?
  • What is the school policy on children who have a disability?
  • What does the school have to offer your child?
  • Does the school have the resources to help and support your child?
  • What daily communication strategies would you like between you and the teacher?
  • What is your vision for your child’s future?
  • Are there other ideas about your child’s education you would like to explore?
  • Is the model of education that you want for your child currently available?

Do you need more information or can we assist you?
